"Let them eat cake" was written by Jean-Jacques Rousseau in 1765. At that time Marie Antoinette was a nine year old Austrian princess who had never been to France, so obviously Rousseau's memory of "a great princess" saying something similar years earlier had nothing to do with Marie Antoinette. Even before the invention of the internet baseless rumors could spread like wildfire and become commonly accepted "facts."
Also what does a 9 yo princess know about poverty
