@OP, the shape of the universe is impossible for our minds to comprehend. This is all abstract math. Calling the universe flat is already just a mathematical trick to make certain things work, but it doesn't make logical sense to our brains and experiences. Imagine the shape of a mobius strip without flat surfaces... it becomes 4 dimensional, and our brains are simply unable to comprehend or imagine such a shape...
a surface with one continuous side formed by joining the ends of a rectangle after twisting one end through 180°.
