*sigh* this is a classic Ted Ed riddle. Working backwards, the first pirate can rob them all blind and take 98 coins, giving 1 to C3 and 1 to C5. Working backwards, C3 and C5 realize that this is sadly their best proposition, and thus a forced to accept it.
Note that this only works when a) the proposition passes in case of a tie, b) there is no collusion among pirates, and c) they’re all perfect logicians.
The problem only gets interesting when, say, there’s 22 pirates, but only 10 coins. It looks somebody will die, but if the captain plays his cards right, he can stay alive.
My question to you is this: how?
