Online friends never were and never will be real friends. Often you can't even trust your real friends fully, in some bitter cases not even your partner or family - it is absolutely fatal to trust strangers via the internet.
From my experience men tend towards hate and women often more towards self-hatred and shame. Imo has sth to do with the social construct we are living in. There is actually no reason for both. You shouldn't be someone you are not and if you feel like making a refreshing break, just do so! I have online-chess-friends and chat with them only about twice a year, because we all got very inactive. Still we are good online-friends as soon as we meet again. Maybe you have too many friends instead of the right ones. And after all, never forget, it's the internet and you don't really know any of those people from all over the world.
