No high end gaming PC’s to California and other states

Dell is no longer shipping high-end gaming PCs to California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington, due to new regulations on the energy usage of consumer electronics.

Alienware is an American computer hardware subsidiary of Dell. Same, no more shipping.

At least that'll save innocent people from buying Alienware. Lol.

People should just get a custom build, save a buck or two, and stay away from Dell's "excellent" customer service.

But that won't make this decision any less stupid.

If there's a Left and Right, where are the Up and Down?

I'm not a "gamer", so I'm a bit ignorant concerning gaming PCs. But, can't a person just buy a regular but powerful PC that has the same performance specs as a gaming PC? I guess you wouldn't get all of the fancy colored LEDs, but I always thought that stuff was a bit gaudy anyway.

Yep, the decision applies to only pre-builds. You can totally buy the individual components off the shelf, and have a PC with the exact same specifications as the pre-build for much cheaper.

You'd have to give up the RBG lighting, Alienware's shiny little alien logo, and never forget, Dell's amazing service. wink.png You can obviously add the RGB lighting if you want though.

Gamers are being oppressed as always.

Dunno how these guys end up making everything political... angry.png

How very sad for all you gamers . You’ve now got the chance to get your lives back instead of sitting the whole day on your arses getting fat and obese, a chance to breathe fresh air, and make contact with the outside world again ! ✌️🤪

Gamer comps are just super expensive normal computers

Now I know that Woolley secretly works in the government's Department of Redundancy Department... :-)

In the winter, a gaming PC could double as a space heater, right? ;-)

Didn't Dell used to have great service? I guess you're implying that that's no longer the case?

Mr Teacher or what ever you call yourself, I do not own a computer, I’m not a gaming freak, and I work at an animal sanctuary. This work requires my presence either mornings, afternoons , or evenings ........ I suggest you now get back to your game ....what are you playing now , Snakes & ladders ✌️🤪
Woollensock2
Oh dear ! ........I do believe Mr Teacher is upset, I must’ve ruffled the poor guy’s feathers ........hopefully mummy will buy you a new game soon to cheer you up ! ✌️🤪
UnclePeet
….you have to admit “.......hopefully mummy will buy you a new game soon to cheer you up !” is a great line

Nope, far from a great line, in my opinion. Just a cheap insult.

Guys you’ve been great entertainment ! ...however Woolly has busy schedule tomorrow, which means It’s time for Woolly to hit the sack 🛏 👋🤪
UnclePeet
Cheap yes but, like lightning, it struck out of nowhere and was unexpected

Not anymore. Their products are still good in the laptop space, but in the pre-build market, it's frankly embarrassing.

A gaming PC is different in several ways from the average PC.  More and faster storage and a faster video controller, or even two are the most prevalent.  Most quality PCs can be converted with available hardware which would circumvent the new rules in California and other places.

The power consumption of a super gaming computer can be 5 times higher than a conventional PC at 500 to 700 watts/hour.  The truth is that only 2% of computers are capable of this and these loads are only peak when using two video cards, etc.   A high performance gaming PC will normally run at 300 watts/hour average.

The legislation has got nothing to do with total/peak power consumption. It only considers idle states.

Dell knew that these regulations were coming for years, but they did not upgrade their systems with law-abiding PSUs unlike its competitors, hence this ban.
