Is Covid-19 Getting Better Part 1

My thoughts are that it is getting much better. Precaution should still be taken, but it is not like it is an existential threat. Until there is a vaccine, people will continue to get sick, but in my mind the death rate and danger do not outweigh the negative affects of continued lockdown (which proved not too effective at lessening the cases/death, but effective at their original intent of flattening the curve to not overwhelm hospitals)

I can’t understand why their are people in some countries, that are protesting against the use of face masks. It’s for their own safety, and also the safety of other people........absolutely ridiculous ! 🤷‍♂️

Also I think President Trump is setting a poor example, by not wearing a mask when it’s necessary.
QuarteredFOV
It is not.
While the curves of global active cases and deaths are flattening logarithmically - linearly, they are both still trending up.
Additionally, there is now some evidence of airborne transmission independent of respiratory droplets, as well as increasing documentation on syndromic after-effects and RNA mutations that might make a single effective vaccine harder to achieve.
Will we, as a species, beat this thing? YES.
But it's gonna take actively fighting against science denialism and 'covid fatigue'.
The socio-economic impact must be mitigated by strong government intervention (ie, do the opposite of what we're doing here in the US...)
Listen to the scientists, maintain protective protocols, check in with people you care about to keep social connections active, and be good to yourself to help keep up your endurance.
We'll get there - it's just gonna take time.

(I'm not a Medical professional I am however a research geek)

Hi. Politics aside, does a mask work? I am not against masks (If I have to wear one I will if you wear one that's fine by me) but in my opinion yes and no. N95 or P2 (FYI is the entry level) mask worn correctly with eye protection and gloves with tape to seal the mask to your face taken off and put on correctly, yes. A surgical mask no.

First, why do we wear PPE? We wear a mask to stop water droplets from exiting our mouth and nose or ingesting water droplets.

So now we know this are surgical masks ineffective?

1. Well most people don't want to spend much on a mask so they use surgical masks and wear them multiple times. This means we touch the water droplets on the mask as most of us are careless in taking them off and putting it on.

2. We touch our face, a lot.

3. The water droplets escape. We have to remember the design of surgical masks are made to stop the surgeon from infecting the patient not stop water droplets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVf_9DANDVs Fauci talking on this. Think what you like about Fauci my points are still valid and so are his.

4. Incorrect usage of masks. I don't know about other countries but in NZ most people are careless and wear it under the nose and no one cares.

5. THEY HAVE NO FILTER! Why is this in caps well, we breathe the same air.

So does a surgical mask stop Covid? No. Are masks useless No. An N95 or P2 mask will lower the viral load IF WORN CORRECTLY!!! (Lower viral load means less chance of your body being overwhelmed by the virus). So If you are at risk a mask may help

. If you want to wear a mask, do so, but if you are a serious mask wearer you would 1. Not touch your face, 2. Get a UV light stick to kill the virus, 3. Wear safety glasses and gloves and be educated in how to put your PPE on and off without contaminating yourself.

Also, the plastic may be of some concern. Here, though we are "green kiwis" some people just litter their masks, it's just disgusting.

Stay safe,

With all my research, I've come to one conclusion - I'll tell you in Part  2.

Cool

Masks or anything else seem to have no effect on anything and these outbreaks happen at random

Florida, with no restriction, never shut down, and doesn’t even mandate masks in school….had a big outbreak of COURSE everyone bleated that is was because of the lack of mandates.

A few months later and Florida has the LOWEST case count in the COUNTRY per capita while states with very strict mandates in masks and distancing are rising to the top as far as cases.

It’s been like this since the start and masks and closures and distancing seems to have no bearing on cases and outbreaks.

Posting false claims like that Peet is gonna get this thread locked. At one time Florida had the highest cases and deaths from covid.  Masks work.....social distancing work......mandates work.  The global death count is 5 million.  It might have been 15 or 20 million without the masks, distancing, & mandates.

Absolutely agree with that one Ron . Also I don’t understand why people protest against many of the Covid rules that are put in place to help protect people. I find these people absolutely bonkers , the rules are their to protect them ! 🤷‍♂️
Defenceking27

Dunno about Englund but in NZ we can eat at a restaurant and only need a mask at the counter. Sounds stupid to me. Also they have to use takeout packaging which is just crazy(I went to a Café Anatolia and had to eat in takeout packaging). I think some of these rules can and should be bent. Mental health was already a problem for NZ before lockdown 1 and 2. Now its getting worse.

As for the false claims well neither of you cited a website book or vid so as a debater I think you both fail to give evidence. Adding to that, I believe that freedom of opinion should be allowed right or wrong, right or left (You may be in Florida but you haven't proven that here)

Also calling these people bonkers is not fair regardless of beliefs of how deadly the virus is. Look, in NZ and everywhere these stimulus packages will have to be paid back in tax or never (really the national debt is ridiculous for such a small country). Plus Covid has been taking jobs. Now the Unvaxed can be descriminated against by choice of companies and unvaxed teachers will be fired two weeks from now. This is like an apartheid, our Prime Minister admits it (I don't want to go into politics and I am not against Jacinda this is just justification for peaceful protesting if you were to do so in NZ. This is why the springbok tour's protests started in 1981. History repeats itself.

IMAO Ron how does a mask help?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRksgpI738k&t=1s Jacinda admitting this is like apartheid (the word apartheid is not used but it is very clear).

P.S My information can be and will be sourced on request.

It’s the unvaxed selfish people, who are helping to spread the virus 🦠 😤

Crap Ron

Florida now has the LOWEST cases per capita in the ENTIRE COUNTRY with ZERO CHANGE TO POLICY.

Why then, if measures and mandates work, are the places that DO have them suddenly surging DESPITE mandates and measures?

I’ll wait for your answer.
UnclePeet
Florida NEVER CLOSED and has NO MANDATES….not even for school.

They are doing BETTER in person capita deaths than New York and New Jersey despite them taking EVERY MEASURE IMAGINABLE.

Florida is equal to Massachusetts in per capita deaths even though Mass took EVERY MANDATE AND MEASURE.

And remember Florida has the 2nd oldest population in the country and thus one of the most vulnerable.

And Harvard just released a study in October of 2021….peer reviewed and published, saying “Increases in COVID-19 are unrelated to levels of vaccination across 68 countries and 2947 counties in the United States”

“At the country-level, there appears to be no discernable relationship between percentage of population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases in the last 7 days (Fig. 1). In fact, the trend line suggests a marginally positive association such that countries with higher percentage of population fully vaccinated have higher COVID-19 cases per 1 million people. Notably, Israel with over 60% of their population fully vaccinated had the highest COVID-19 cases per 1 million people in the last 7 days.”

“Misinformation”……

Anything the news says that you don’t like is misinformation apparently.

And anything that says Covid isn’t exactly what they said it was is also misinformation.

Until fauci says otherwise forever and ever amen.
UnclePeet
Yes Wooly drink that kool aid!

It’s the unvaccinated that are the problem CLEARLY!

The protected need to be protected from the unprotected by forcing the unprotected to use the protection that did not protect the protected in the first place!

Makes sense right?
MovedtoLiches

I’m still trying to figure out why the vaccinated have to wear masks to prevent spreading a disease to those who choose not to get vaccinated, as the only unvaccinated left are those who have made that personal choice.
