Something scary about teleportation...

Picture this, scientists have discovered a way of teleportation in the future, and the method is basically disintegration and reformation. So basically, the machine will split each and every molecule in your body, send it through a particle accelerator to the place you wanna be teleported to, and rearrange every atom so that you take your former self. Now, here comes the scary part, will you still be yourself? This is like asking the same question as "If you download your brain to a computer, will you have consciousness?". Every neuron in your "rearranged body" will still work, but will you actually be alive consciously or will your body just become a organic robot? Scariest part, there is no way to know, no matter how many tests happen, you will never know if you will come out alive. Thoughts?

Wow scary. I would expect that the neurons would reconnect if the atoms when back to the same spot. You would likely be the same

This is also a thought experiment by Donald Davidson called "The Swampman", check it out if y'all want.

There is another thought experiment that deals with a similar concept to the above ones. It's called 'The ship of Theseus' .

If they figure that out they’ll soon figure out time travel

#1 In this experiment one can argue that since every atom of of your body is removed then rearranged somewhere that person is still you but another arguement is that since you have been disintigrated you have died and what that has been made by rearranging molecules together is only a copy of you but not actually you. For me personally both arguement seems insufficient and things quickly go towards philosophical questions like "who are you actually" "are you a mind or a body or are you something seperate from them?"Its a lot to ponder....

Star Trek explores many teleportation concepts with the “transporter.” It’s a fun subject to think about.

I’ve thought about this type of thing a lot, it’s all very interesting

This is called topology

Yeah that is scary. But usually, anything like that would be tested with inanimate objects and if that works then animals next

.....however.. an advanced developed system has been around for several decades, yet of course kept from civilization and used to their preferences. Just like the much knowledge 10s of thousands of years ahead of what our civilization has presently. Those filthy sob's have cures for cancer etc. etc. etc. and withhold because how they'd lose their multi $ billions from Healthcare!

no way!! I rather go with a plane and I am afraid of flying xD

LordHunkyhair3

I don't think teleportation is achievable really, as it would be essentially killing the human and cloning hem at the other end, so you end up with and empty shell of a body

J3NN4star

but, would you?

LordHunkyhair3

#19 Unless there is a complete change in the way scientists do teleportation, yes

J3NN4star

why would you even do teleportation? what if an error occurs?!
