Welcome to the forum for mourning, comfort and reminiscing. A place to gather together and share the stories and tales of the ones who have passed on. A forum to memorialize those you knew of on the site or else where who have passed on. To remember the good and the bad times, to come together, with the common aspect of loss. For no matter our division, we are bound by some common aspects of life. A truly beautiful part of life is the living getting together.

I know many of us this year have lost someone, either on here or in real life, and you are welcome to post about that person here. This a post to remember all of those who passed. For this brings us together, death is what makes us human.

The below quotes and this OP is dedicated to this member: @Jesuisowlie or Owl/Owlie.

The quotes below are from all sorts of different users on here. Many whom don’t like one another, yet, they all had gotten together to post. Each person gave a quote, and suppose these quotes reflect a different view of what happened.

QUOTES:

"I knew him,  through his love for music, as a good friend. I was very  saddened today to learn of his passing. Hopefully his passion for jazz, rock and flamenco lives on." @power_9_the_people

"Owlie was cherished contributor in the club Open Discussions, among other things, he created the forum "Quotes of the Day" there. He will be much missed" - @VirtualKnightJoakim

"Owlie wasn't to everyone's tastes but to those that saw underneath all that, we all saw the intelligence that he had. His poetry was moving and, despite the things that we didn't have in common, we were always polite and respectful of the others' views.

When I first heard the news on 21.11.20 I spent most of the day crying at the sheer loss that I felt. The poetry I am going to miss. The messages we sometimes shared. but most of all a really good person that I am going to miss.

Fly free @jesuisowlie and we will meet again some day. " --@Blackfirestorm

"I am very sad to hear about owlies passing. Owie was a good debater and he really knew his stuff, we have had many, umm, "passionate"debates in my earlier time on the site. It was often heated but i defiantly enjoyed it.   I am sad to here about his passing." @trump2020maga1

"Owlie will be greatly missed.  Truly a nice guy.  A sane man in an insane world.   RIP Owlie." --@flabbi

"Fly into that silent night, sudden flash so bright, fly my nocturnal friend into that silent night!" --@siluriun

"Fly high in the Friendly Sky ... So long Owlie, my good mate" -- @tzimakos1173

"I have known Owlie for some time. Whilst not as well as others like Al and Carla, I have always enjoyed his presence, his informative nature and he had a love for many of the values I also admire.

I loved many of his tales, especially his touring of the world. I am fortunate that he occasionally shared his thoughts with me. His honesty always shone through.

He generally wore his heart on his sleeve and Many could learn from his direct, open and honest manner. Quick to anger as often those who care often are.

Clearly he was as a talented musician as well as chess player." @Pingpongpaul

"Owlie was a complex and sometimes irritating person. He had a humane side and a grumpy side. He loved his little dog, whose cancer required that he be put down a few months before Owlie himself went. It caused him a lot of psychic pain, and his grumpy side came out, causing him to burn a few bridges on the way out. If you remember someone at all, that's usually more than you can say for most people." --@DrSpudnik

"RIP Owlie .You will be dearly missed . I've always felt great admiration for you and how you contributed to this site with your friendship and wisdom." -- @broullon

"No comment." @primepawn

"sometimes I forget people die, I feel like I'm already in the spirit world, Hope he finds peace in his passing" --- @knotch

"Good luck to you, Owlie.

It is really a shame that you have passed. You were a very valued member of our community, and it is amazing to see how many people were touched by your mere presence on an internet forum.

Certainly, everyone who met you in real life was really lucky. " --@WarIsMyFatherland

"Despite not knowing Owl well myself, it's always sad to hear of any member passing away & it's clear from the many kind words said about him that he was very well liked on the site & will be dearly missed." --@stephen_33

"Open minded truth seeking fellow chess enthusiast.....so...Nothing much to say, other than , we all will join him soon....rest in peace." -- @Zzgloo

"My brother and I were close, when we were together in person it was as if, we just picked up where we left off, as if a week had gone by, not years, and of course, emails and phone calls, although communication was sporadic sometimes, I traveled a lot for work, as did my brother, and as it turns out, I did not know him that well, and assuming he did not know me, that well." -- Gary (Owl's brother.)

"A serious and sad piece of news  to hear of the passing of a stalwart of OD the dear Jesuisowlie who had the respect and admiration of what seems like everybody on this site and a lot of love too,a great legacy.

RIP dear Owlie." --@Paragon2

"This is so very sad. He was someone with a sharp mind and interested in life and what people thought! I didnt know him all that well, but he came across as someone who was intelligent and open to debate which is something i always admire in a person." --@witty_cupcake

“Mission Complete.” --@cnj513

"I'm not a great guy for words but I'd only say we will all miss and remember you Owlie . The guy was special." --@broullon

"He contributed so much.

I will miss his intelligence, honesty and his humour. And he didn’t suffer fools gladly.

His banter with Al and others made me laugh. He contributed so much to that group before he left.

I’m not going to say we always got on well and agreed.  He was furious I didn’t agree Led Zep were the best band in the world for one thing… (they aren’t    ) He wasn’t always easy, but he had my back and lent support many times.

I wish his last four months had been a happier time on Chess. Com, he got fed up with the site and was not around too much.  In fact one of his last messages was to tell me not to spend to much time on here.

It's a reminder to be kinder, we don't know what people on here are going through.

RIP Owlie." --@Carla-Magnusson

“Death ends a life, not a relationship.” --@Marie-AnneLiz

"It's wonderful how people are coming together over his passing, that even with our differences, we are united, we are similar. He led a free life, and here we are, living ours. I know I appreciate life a bit more because of him and his wonderful stories. I think the main thing I learned, even though he used a username, there was a person behind that username, and that person had quite some wonderful stories of woe and freedom to tell. I have found that to be true for many users on this site. Everyone's got a story to share, either of theirs or of someone else. He had stories to share, it was a pleasure to read them, and it was a treasure he shared. He'll be missed not forgotten. I hope you are free in spirit, with your song everlasting, fellow person, chess player and friend." --@TrooperChessOrTC

"Owlie, I will miss our friendship and you will always be in my heart. I loved your fiesty nature, your poetry and verse. Your musical accomplishments will live on and I'm blessed you shared some recordings with me. Inspired by you in my own musical journey, I will always remember you fondly. Much love to you wherever you may be. K." --@Miss-K
