I am playing games and the timer is about to run out on the opponent and then they move and get more time added to their clock..It doesn't happen all the time..a bug in the system?

Not saying there might not be a bug, seems to be a lot of that lately, but the following is a "normal" description of what happens.

The 'Normal description is not what's occuring. The opponents time does not change and actually gets bumped up a few seconds. It's a perhaps a fault in the system that was designed to allow for lagtime but in reality never really counts down if the opponent keeps moving in his last 20 seconds of the game. It occurs with foriegn players. They are not playing that fast. Most recently I was playing ^ the opponent clock was staying on 14.7 seconds to 15.9 seconds for 10 moves. The opponent is making 10 moves and getting time added to their clock??

Just playing devil's advocate here, but since you seem to favor 5/2 games it could easily be a combination of premoves, lag, and the 2 second interval.

Thanks 4 the devil's avdocate but no, it's a defect in the system. Players are getting time ADDDED to their clock. They are playing till the last second and the exploiting the fault in the system. Somehow the server is giving an advantage to players outside the US. The foreign players are ware of the loophole and wait the last few seconds to move.

I tried to post a complaint to support about the timer not working properly , with my case , both of us were under 10sec to go , he made a move leaving him 4secs then I made a quick reply then his timer timed out and I got the loss, I was not happy due to the fact it was a rematch game , and I had better position with more valuable seconds to go

I recently played against someone who managed 5 or 6 moves without even losing 1/10th of a second on his clock. Meanwhile, when I would make my move I would often wait 5-10 seconds for his move, but then it added most of that time back to his clock. Meanwhile, after his move actually showed up on my screen I would instantaneously lose anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds off my clock.

Similar issues have occurred in most games I've played in the last 2 weeks. I get that there is a lag time between the time my opponent moves and the time my computer "sees" that move, so it shouldn't be subtracted from his time. But why is it subtracted from mine? That didn't happen before, and there's nothing wrong with my internet connection.

chess.com timer is not working correctly.  This started only a few days ago and worked OK all times before.  Is there something going on her with the software and is anything being done to correct this?

i know it is an old thread but the clock still does not seem to work correctly. I make moves in about 1-2 seconds and it counts 5.... seconds...

I am facing the same issue and i dont think there is a solution for this yet

Increments.

You people don't want to solve this time issue, this should be against fair play. Twice in a row, I and my opponent were playing at the same speed if I was not faster and I still lost on time while my opponents time kept replenishing

Absolute joke. I'm in a 15 min game were my clock is at 7:15 and my opponent is at 14:29....
