Trolling? Are you serious?

Trolling? Seriously guys? I find it quite pathetic and disturbing when I find that there is trolling going on out there in the world and even on a great website such as chess.com. The definition of Troll in modern times these days is this which I looked up. "make a deliberately offensive or provocative online posting with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them."

Now tell me, does this sound like something that should be allowed in today's world or in today's society? Does this seem like something that should be allowed on websites like this or in other online websites.

Even on MMORPG games these days there is Trolling. Even on my favorite online game Wizard101, there is Trolling going on. I am a victim of it. Nearly had an emotional breakdown once from it.

I must say that nowadays, the internet and things like facebook and skype are easy ways for trollers to obtain the ability to troll others and harrass them. I for one am sick and tired of it. I am tired of the harrassing and purposefully rude comments spread towards others just for the amusement of the ones who do it.

Its not all one-sided though. Mayhap the ones who are trolling have been trolled themselves or have issues going on that cause them to do it. I don't know. I am just stating my opinion and trying to spread the word that it is not a good thing to get involved in. Thank you take care.

Hey there and YES I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! It never gets old for them at all. They live to troll other people and to make insults at them. They purposefully say things that will get under their skin.

I agree with what you are saying. I also posted that in my thread up top. I believe it is in the last paragraph. I posted about what they might be going through.

oooh yes yes of course. Yes the victims might be going through a lot at home as well. The victims are almost always going through other things. Or might be to young to understand and then are just getting anxious and stressed out.

Exactly the other side of the argument I was saying in the topic post. We can never know what other people might be going through on the other side of the computer.

Some people never learn it seems. Once they begin trolling, they never seem to be able to come out of it and learn from their mistakes.

In a way it might be. I might not go that far. I might say its kind of a power rush.

TROLOLO SOCIETY #2. I declined the offer lol.

Before some new tech person invented the term, it was just called humor. Just imagine that you have john cleese and the chatty man participating here together with some lesser talent. If you want to avoid this, then talk about chess moves.

Don't get me wrong Newkidonadonkey I love the humour on this site and some of the people who post are as funny as John Cleese and chatty man...funnier sometimes!

Sure, it's dumb, but it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Trolling has existed since the first groups were formed after the arrival of the internet. Before that, I bet there were trolls using snail mail. And let us not forget the obnoxious guy at the party or at the end of the bar spouting off ridiculous things just to illicit a response. Prank phone callers could probably fall into the category of trolls as well.

Just don't feed the trolls if they bother you.
