What are your strategies for certain patterns in rhythm games? (Jacks, Staircases, etc.)

I'm not struggling with anything, I would just like to know how you guys get good/better at playing, and I'll give feedback myself! (My advice wouldn't be too useful for some, as I play on mobile)

I usually play while walking my dingo - they call me the local idiot - and If I'm playing a Staircase mate against someone named Jack, I always look for some sort of rhythm.
