Why do we fall ill?

Improvements in medicine keep people alive far longer than they otherwise would have been a century ago. So what you have now is people living in the doctors waiting room who are perpetually ill.
Which is one reason why it's very difficult to get a doctors appointment.
Last time I saw a doctor was 7 years ago. I did a summer job which left me with two infected feet. The hassle in seeing a doctor was pretty amazing.
Nearly 100 initial phone calls just to be given a phone appointment. The doctor rings me and I tell him my feet have gone blue/purple. He's like "you need to come in" - I'm like "no s*** Sherlock".
The doctors is sort of like the bus service, where the people using it aren't the one's who are paying for it.
