Little kids copy what they see. These days they grow up with social media. They see people asking for likes, comments, followers, etc. so they do it too.

It's fine to socialize online. Everyone does it... I'm doing it right now by posting in this forum.
I've never seen you beg for comments / friends / etc so don't worry about it.

I assume most people will grow out of it.
If you're a young adult who literally uses youtube / Twitch for your income, then it makes sense to ask for e.g. subscribers... but if you're a kid it's just a fun game until you get older and don't care about things like your follower count.
I am sick of people trying to get followers, views, and points, like bruh, it literally does nothing, it only makes you look "popular" and stuff. I swear I wish I could curse in the general forums but I'm resisting. Like, there are people who do not have ANY appreciation for the game of chess and just want followers, views, and to advertise their "twitch" "youtube" and other social media platforms. LIKE BRUH, IN ALL THE TIME YOU SPEND MAKING USELESS BLOGS AND TRYING TO FISH FOR POINTS, YOU COULD LITERALLY IMPROVE SO MUCH AT THE ACTUAL SITE!
They're all people who celebrate view counts, followers, or points casually, but those are people who really don't care, or have time to even bump up those things. However, goals like "150 followers", "10k views", "20k points" is just useless. SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT.
