Running in-house scholastic tournaments online?

I sponsor a new club at a high school. The competition between schools fell through and they want to at least run some tournaments in house. Our plan is to run it via this site because I thought they had decent tournament tools through the Club setup.

However, I am totally lost. Is there a tutorial anywhere that would step me through setting up the tournament and limiting it to just people in the Club I setup on the site? I have trolled around the options today a bit and have been unsuccessful in figuring it out.

Any idea?

You have a couple of options. If you are interested in Daily chess, then you can make an Invite Only tourney and only invite members from your school/club.

If you want Live tourneys, then you can set up Live events that are limited to the members of  your club but you need to make sure the club is Invite only.

That said, seems like it would be easier and better experience to do it OTB at the school rather than online.

In general the kids will play way more chess if I do it digital. They play chess at lunch in a teacher room every day but there isn't an easy time for a tournament. Online they app is literally in their online in their pocket.

Plus, while the school got us lots of boards and pieces clocks are more expensive.

When I tried to set up a daily tournament it seemed like it was me having my club challenge another cub rather than an internal bracketed tournament within my club.

You create it from the tourney pages not from the club. The ones in the club pages are for club vs club events.

It's unfortunate that chess.com changed the name of what in v2 were called "groups", to "clubs" in v3.  Just causes unnecessary confusion....

Overall I am relatively frustrated with how this is setup. The interface is extremely difficult to use.

I'm just bummed because I thought this would be a decent option for running the club online but it seems really ill suited to it. Very glad I had a free trial.
