You expect chess.com to do sensible things! Not likely!
That's not true. They've done many reasonable things, but this is one where they could improve.

To be frank, Chess.com's policy with flags does not make very much sense. They allow the flags of 'Chinese Taipei' and many other non-autonomous/semi-autonomous regions (Galicia, Basque Country, Niue, Palestine) which are not recognized by most countries, but ignore other independence movements - East Turkestan, etc. It would make far more sense for them to either:
1. Remove all flags - depoliticize chess
2. Do what Lichess does and allow the flags of almost any would-be independence movement imaginable, or
3. Just allow the flags of countries recognized by, say, the United States.
Another seeming double standard is the allowance of a pro-Ukraine flair, without doing the same, for, say Palestine or Israel. It seems an awful lot like picking favorites.
This is not intended to be a political discussion, particularly about the status of Palestine or Israel. If you do not follow this rule, I will be forced to block you so that you cannot comment here.
I'd guess it's because Palestine vs Israel is so controversial, whereas pretty much everyone supports Ukraine over Russia.

Only in countries where Western consensus prevails. You would get different opinions on the other side of the world, so it would be fairer to do 1) or 2). I would prefer 1) and leave politics where it belongs.
Gens una sumus.

Palestine is a country
Palestine is a territory
It is not a country
Let's avoid political debate here

Personally I do like seeing where people play, so I vote option 2. Option 3 is probably the worst option.

I say remove the flair. Some of the flair is un necessary flair. Maybe the site is forced to take a stand regarding one specific country bc of sanctions. The site offering flair when they say don't be political but we will allow specific political flair is hypocritical.
If you're going to support the use of flags allow all flags except the ones designated as organizations on the watch list.
Removing flags is also political because those are the same people that believe in open borders. Countries don't exist without borders.
