Can't Play Against Computer as Black

Sort:

I've been working on creating an opening repertoire in Chessbase. I want to actually practice playing my lines vs a computer (in case there are any important variations I missed), so I opened a chess.com analysis board, inputed the moves and clicked "finish vs computer". The line I'm currently working on is a variation of the KID, from Black's perspective. But even though I am looking at the analysis board from Black's perspective, whenever I play the computer from that position, it flips the board and I have to play white. There are no options in the settings to change the colors, it forces me to play white each time. Is there a way to fix this?

Click on the New Game button and Rematch and you'll get colors reversed.

I don't think you understood my question, I'm trying to practice a specific line. I set up the starting position of that line on the analysis board, play against the computer and it swaps the colors. Rematching starts the game over from move 1. That's useless to me.

Ah, apparently that isn't working if you use the option to make moves immediately. If you use the Setup option, and move the pieces where you want them, it does.

Thanks, that seems to have fixed it. Probably just an oversight, since moving the pieces manually vs using the setup option have the same purpose, just by different methods. "Setup" I feel like is mainly used for positions deeper into the game where it's faster to manually place each piece than play through the game

I have tried for the last half hour to 'finish vs computer' as black and still can't get it working, even with the 'Setup' option. Please find a way to make this more intuitive.

Just start a new game and Rematch. Colors will be flipped.

@GinsbergGambit I had the exact same problem! managed to sort it when I realised that when you click 'play vs computer' it will automatically set you as whichever colour is next to move. The solution? I simply clicked 'play vs computer' from one previous move, and then made the final setup move against the computer. Hope that makes sense?

You will get an option to change it if you look on top of the modes and you can click on black to be black

If you set up a custom position using the analysis board, no matter if you use setup or not, and start with "practice vs computer" you get an icon "switch sides" at the bottom right!

Using this one gets you in black or white roleplaying!

Just reverse the sides of the board so you are still white but the board is the same as if you were black.
