Chess. com keeps crashing after I hit Analyze

I'm using Win 10 with the latest Chrome browser and every time I hit "analyze" after a game the site crashes and I get a white screen with an error message.

This just started about two weeks ago after they added the new analyze features.

Is this happening to everyone else too?

dallin

@Novelty-Move did the error message read, "Not enough memory to open this page"?

Novelty-Move

Yes!

dallin

Thanks for letting us know, @novelty-move! This first came to our attention today. We are looking into it, and hope to have it resolved soon.

Novelty-Move

Any word?

This is still happening.

I can't use Analysis in Google Chrome on Windows 10 machine. 64 Mb Ram 3-12 core processors.

So it's not my system.

We have had a difficult time replicating this, @novelty-move. We've only seen it that one other time and our developers were not able to replicate then.

Is this still happening? I noticed that you analyzed 2 games yesterday. Did get an error message with each of those?

Novelty-Move

Yes, I get an error message on every game I analyze.

I only analyzed two games because I can't use the feature.

So I copy the PGN and analyse them on my computer.

I also get the "not enough memory to open this page" when I click the "Retry Mistakes" button.

dallin

That's terrible, @novelty-move, I am so sorry! We will be optimizing some processes next week that I would expect to help most users with this type of issue ... but with your processor and RAM, I am not confident that it will help you. You should be able to run 10 analysis at once without breaking a sweat. My 3d graphics machine with similar specs does not even blink at analysis.

You mentioned you get the error when clicking "Analyze" and "Retry Mistakes". I assume this also happens when you click "Game Report" but I need to verify that is the case.

Novelty-Move

Yep, you got it

Novelty-Move

By the way, you're welcome to have your tech people take over my computer if they would like to see for themselves.

They can either go to my profile and click on one of the games there or go into the live room and select one of the games in the Archive folder.

Or if they want to see the whole process they can start a new game on my ID and in my computer which they now control and resign out of the game and then click the Analyze or any of the buttons by Analyze and see what happens.

By the way I also wanted to add that if I hit Ctrl+click the Analyze button this won't happen.

As you probably know hitting Ctrl+clicking any link opens up a new tab with that link.

So doing it this way is a temporary workaround.

@novety-move, do you have any browser plug-ins or extensions running in Chrome as well? Thanks!

dallin

Finding that opening a new tab fixes the problem is a HUGE clue for us, @Novelty-Move. So glad you found that workaround. Thank you!

Yes, I do.

I have ad-blocker, Smooth Scroll and Awesome Screenshot.

I have tried to disable them but still got that message.

Just want to say I get the same error as reported by Novelty-Move here. Not every single time, but probably something like 50% of the times I go into analyze, typically via the new "Game Report" button. Latest Google Chrome on Windows 10 machine with 64 GB Ram and 16 core CPU. I have not seen that error in Chrome anywhere else but on chess.com after the new Analyze-feature (which is awesome - when it works happy.png)

dallin

That is unfortunate, @leifel. Sorry that you are experiencing this. We have a fix coming for this next week. If you try to perform an analysis on a Daily chess game from your archive, do you get the same result?

leifel

I did try "Game Report" on a few daily chess games just now. I did not get that error then. FYI: I have seen the error mostly when I walk through the game with the left and right arrow keys on keyboard during analyzing.

Novelty-Move

I get it the moment I hit Analyze.

Can't even get into the using arrows at all.

I then have to go back to the game and hit Analyze again and when I do it usually works.

The first time however never works.

dallin

We have a fix coming next week that we expect to work for you, @novelty-move. The fix is already in place for Daily games, but since you play only Live games, that does not do you any good. Sorry for the long delay nailing this down. Thank you for your patience and your help.

Novelty-Move

This is still happening to me.

How annoying.
