Chess.com should hide the opening while playing a game. For example in one of my games (I can't find it now) it shows the openings to the opponent. My opponent saw the opening name and did not capture the pawn. kinda frustrates me.

Omed

the opening name is "London System: Poisoned Pawn Variation"

I use the phone app, so I had to take a look at this on the computer. I didn't realize that was there. I just did the same thing and they listed the Philador when the defense actually doesn't have a name. It's a variation of the Philador and my opponent didn't bite, just like yours. Now I'm in a bit of a pickle trying to regroup. I would almost put the analysis on the edge of cheating. Isn't this equal to outside help?

pcwildman

The analysis is supposed to come after the game.

Of course, if we know our opening theory we would know all of this anyway, And we should assume there are opponents know opening theory. Frankly, I am just now delving into that particular field of endeavor.

But who plays e4 d4 and then doesn't attack with the pawns? Most people do. I like to shove into the 5th rank.

pcwildman

Which is exactly where my opponent has me right now. 😁🙄😥

I just found the Openings section of this analysis. It says there are no games with this position found in the database. I assume that means that I'm playing pretty badly.

I played the Pirc with the Moroczy into the Philador. My girlfriend will be impressed. The only fancy name I've ever been able to remember is the Fianchetta.

And I'm not recommending the Philador to anyone. This is how I used to play in the old days.

It's Philidor, Phil.

How did you find out that was the reason the pawn wasn't captured? Did they also get a cup of tea?

A fresh one. This one's already 45 minutes old.

Semantics and spelling. Sheesh. It's the translator's fault. 🙄 I'm pretty sure I misspelled Fienchetto, as well. Sounds like cheese. I'll have some Bruschetta with a little Fienchetto on the side.

No that was fine. Assumed it was the female version. We're all woke these days

pcwildman

I'll have a fienchetto burrito.

Watch, now we will start seeing food at restaurants named after chess moves or famous chess players.

There has to be a Queen's Gambit special out there somewhere.

And I guess the gender depends on which side it's on, -a for queen's side, -o for the king's side. 😁

I never player the Philador.

Morphy played a Famous Game with two Aristocrats with an Opening of a very similar name and Checkmated them having sacrificed nearly all his pieces.
