Wow, I feel the same way. Sven is EAAAASY, but Nelson is very hard. I beat him once in a while, but I mostly lose. I don't pass on to the next level, until I'm confortably and regularly winning the lvel I'm on. So I'm stuck on Nelson.
I even started studying more chess theory, just to be able to beat him. haha
computer Sven and Nelson -big difference or am I just bad?

What theory did you read because I’m really struggling with Nelson, and I agree that Sven was heaps easy. I’ll try trap the queen perhaps

Thank god I’m not the only one, I’ve been stuck for days and day on him, maybe I’ll try some other computers. Let me know if you guys fund any string gambits that work against him.

I've found that Nelson's endgame is pretty weak, and that he's generally pretty willing to exchange pieces - so my strategy has been to trade pieces early (especially to get rid of his queen!) and then I can usually get a pawn to the end of the board and finish the game from there

Interesting! I'll try this out. I've been able to hold my ground in the early-mid game, but I always blunder at the end that costs me the game. haha
I have to keep an eye out for oportunities, because Nelson actually blunders a lot.

I had the hardest time to beat Nelson. I almost gave up. Took me forever but then I finally won.
And THEN, I beat David, a 1400 rated AI in 2 moves with fool's mate: https://www.chess.com/a/SVeiYu7c9fpS
They need to fix the AI.

Just got it done thanks to this. Thanks!
I feel like the engine has only recently got a lot stronger. Im 1337 rated and I've played him multiple times a day for the last month or so (ya quarantine is hitting me hard lol) and I win about 45% of my games against him. I win more than I lose with white but with black I have only ever beaten him him 3 times (out of maybe 30 games) and only once before the end game because as mjoneston said his endgame is definitely the weakest part of his game. I would be curious to see for people that have beaten him, do they find winning with black to be significantly harder than with white?

Nelson is a pain. I have only beat him 3 out of maybe 10 or 12 games. All those wins were very close endings with a promoted pawn.

Nelson was tough for me and took a couple of tries to beat him. If you find a way to trade queens, the game becomes easy. The bot is significantly weaker without the queen.

Also, do you guys play bots around your normal rating ?
I have a 700 rating in normal games, and I have a really hard time climbing, where as VS Bots I'm starting to struggle with the 1300-1500 ones
Is it because I don't play enough normal games, or are the bot way easier than their supposed elo ?

I have a rating of 700 and I can't get past Sven. I know that everyone in this message board is practically Bobby Fischer (minus the going crazy part... at least I hope you guys aren't crazy), but can someone please help me! I would really appreciate even a little of advice.

Sven will make some insane blunders. Just play fundamentals and thank him for his mistakes. I mean control the center, develop your pieces, castle, connect your rooks. Don't be afraid to trade queens with him. He's pretty garbage without it. Or...at least that always works for me.

Thank you! I'll let you know how the game plays out.

I found this article because I was having similar trouble. But today I finally beat Nelson! I coincidentally happened to discover today that the Chess Engine used in the Mobile App is not the same as the Chess Engine used when you play in your browser. (Stockfish in browser, Komodo on mobile). When I beat Nelson it was probably the first time I'd played against him in my browser. So ... just a theory ... could "Nelson Stockfish" be easier than "Nelson Komodo"? Or did I just happen to finally beat him?
Is the Nelson AI accurate to that rating and I’m just a lot worse than I was or is it still being tweaked? And if it just me being bad then fair play, I can take that on the chin (although be it, sadly).
