I think that it would be good to show the country flag beside the user name of each player who has posted an open challenge.
Actually, the country name would be more informative.

The flag is self chosen. It doesn't necessarily mean the player has any relationship with that country.
It is? I did not choose a flag, nor did I specify a country when I created my account, yet, the correct flag is showing for me.
Why not show it beside the names in the open challenges list?

In your profile, you can choose your location and that sets the flag. Pretty sure that is part of the initial account setup, though it has been a while since I have done it.
That said, it really shouldn't matter where your opponent is located. I know there are some more sensitive reasons, for a subset of players, but for most, it shouldn't be an issue.

JD. I am using the Android app which shows a chess board and the username on the open challenges screen. And, again, the country name would actually be more informative than the flag.

Yes, I agree. Sometimes I can't tell which country they're from, because I don't know the flag.
