I am wondering what people's thoughts are on adding a feature to the site that would allow users to quickly identify whether chess.com servers are currently operating smoothly and in a reliable fashion for live chess. I could imagine either a traffic light system or a scale indicating server load from 0 to 100% in the top right or left corner of both the website and the app.
I believe that this would effectively limit frustration that users have experienced due to what I believe is the extra stress put on chess.com's services by the global lockdown and any other case of technical problems. After all, if users are at enhanced risk of losing a live game on time due to server issues, they would probably like to know that before commencing it in the first place - and then spending minutes just to find out that it is actually not their own connection that's causing troubles.
They posted the load factor graph in Erik's end of March blog post.
I am not sure that knowing the live load factor would tell you much.
