I had the (basic) computer analyze Fischer's Game of Century. The results were unexpected.

I decided to have the computer analyze one of the most famous games. Interesting, there are NO brilliant moves. Here is the end of the game again.

THIS is quite the shock. After Fischer's move, the computer NOW says black is up a slightly over a point. It says that this isn't brilliant, but just the best move!? It then suggests an alternative that gives an equal position?! This should clearly be a brilliant move, but the analysis (basic) wont recognize it. Here is some other weird analysis. The computer classifies Fischer's rook check as a blunder, but then I decided to look into the computer's "best" line. Here the "best" move is played for black. And now after just one move, this line is said to be .2 better than Fischer's move. Perhaps the rook move was an inaccuracy, but certainly not a blunder. This is another weird analysis, the computer says taking the queen is an inaccuracy, but the following position (below) follows after white plays the "best" or forced moved. Here we are after the "best" and forcing moves for white (after white took the queen). The position is now much worse for white. Thus taking the queen should be classified as a blunder.

Now a big disclaimer, I am only a basic member, so I only used the basic analysis. That said, the basic analysis.

1. Failed to recognize one of the greatest moves in chess history as a brilliant move, despite the move clearly being the best and hard for it to find.

2. Incorrectly identified a non-blunder as a blunder.

3. Identified a blunder as an inaccuracy.

As this is the case, I believe the analysis for basic users should be improved.

I gave up on using the analysis feature entirely after chess.com decided depth=15 is somehow OK.

It affects not only game analysis but also checking the answers to puzzles... sad.png

Basic ( free of charge ) analysis in chess com is worthless. Depth 15 is useless in most cases.

I think a brilliant move has to be something that has technically never been seen by the engine before and is exceptionally good, so it marks moves such as the two Moves of the Century and the Gold Coin Move best moves.

There are two different engines you can use with the gold level membership.

stockfish and something else

i use it to tell me really fast if i'm making some tactical blunder

It seems like usually at the level i play 15 ply is maybe deeper than I can see.  Hmm, only 7.5 moves? yeah. It seems to get a weird horizon effect sometimes where it thinks a move is best, when it would offer the opponent a move by reps in some situations
