"Last Online" not working properly?

Unless a player is a actually online, I believe that only gets updated by a login event. In the apps, unless you explicitly log off, you may never trigger that event but can be online and post. After the session ends, the last online reverts to that login.
I believe that's what's happening. I know there was going to be work to revamp that system, but don't know how high priority it is or when it might be done.
Some user posted a forum topic ~5 minutes ago (from when this was originally posted) but the user's profile says "Last Online: 3 days ago." Why is this?
