Opening explorer totally unfair in Daily matches

Hey there

I think having a limitless opening explorer available that has an access to all previous games, is just a devastating advantage in Daily chess.

Common scenario -

Oh, this position occurred before? let see what previous players did. Oh cool there is a trick, I didnt see it. wow nice i am going to win now.

This is almost as good as having an engine open in many sharp lines.

I think it should be limited drastically somehow, up to a certain move or a certain eval, at least while analyzing the game directly.

I agree it is a significant factor.  Being a able to read opening databases and exploit findings is a significant part of daily chess which makes it quite a different game from live.  I disagree that it is unfair since both players have access to them. Even if you were to remove the feature from chess.com it is still a rule of daily chess that you can use opening databases.  I don't think it is the same as engine use.  Since either player can decide to take the game out of book and make the other player think.

If you think it is unfair, don't use it.

Maybe i wasn't so clear to be honest. Now that i became a premium member i have access to unlimited explorer. I am playing from the mobile, and it is also accessible WITHIN the Daily chess game itself.

Meaning that i can explore a position instantly to see what was played before, but my non premium opponent doesn't have this ability.

I think membership should not give such direct advantage, at least not within the game itself with instant access.
The claim of "if you think its unfair dont use it" is rather meaningless, because it is not me who i am worried about.

I completely disagree. One of the elements of daily chess is access to resources such as books, databases, etc. If you ask me, chess.com should permit the use of tablebases in daily games.

And in actual correspondence matches, the use of chess engines and CPUs by players is generally permitted.

Well if you care SO much about winning an online game, then I'd assume he'd be willing to purchase a paid membership.

Why humans so much like to look for problems where there are none. meh.png

Actual ??? Match parameters are announced. Some allow engines, other's do not. Some play by a gentleman's agreement - not use any reference material.

The Opening Explorer provided here is quite limited. Other free online services provide a lot more data. Of course it's a perk for premium members, as are some other things ... nothing different here than anywhere else.
