When I clicked on "articles" I was greeted with the image of Pepe the Frog. Pepe the Frog is a widely recognized symbol for white supremacist hate groups and has no business on chess.com. Please remove the image.

Twitch kids love it though, and chess.com loves Twitch kids.

From daily dot "The original Pogchamp emote has been around since 2012 and inspired the "poggers" meme, a Pepe the Frog-style remix of Gutierrez's face. It's a ubiquitous image on Twitch gaming streams. Twitch's statement suggests the platform wants to nip things in the bud, preventing Pogchamp from going the same way as Pepe: a neutral, absurdist meme that evolved into a controversial political symbol.

HalloDave

It's revolting to see Pepe all over the twitch/chess.com comments. Whether used intentionally as the white nationalist dogwhistle or not, its relentless ubiquity bespeaks some form of mass mental illness. One hopes these folks are more useful than their memes.

It's the exact same that happened with the ok sign. A couple of people use the hand sign in a bad way, the media writes about it, and then people get the idea that the ok sign is evil. That's obviously absurd. Similarly, claiming that pepe the frog is a symbol of hate, that's absurd. It's completely false. There's a video on YouTube that details the history of pepe, and all the controversy surrounding it. Pepe the frog is just a way to express emotions and ideas over the internet, comparable to any other emoji people use on their phones daily.
