Petition to shadowban all under 500 rated players from chess.com forums

Edit: I just realized that even though this change would make the forums a better place for everyone, the under 500s would still complain and they might stop buying memberships, which is why I think they should be shadowbanned instead so Chess.com doesn't lose any money.

To be 500 all you have to is chomp on your opponent's hanging pieces like ur playing pac-man, it takes literally 0 effort or brainpower. If someone is under 500 they are quite literally brain dead or they don't know how the pieces move, and they clearly don't care about chess so they shouldn't be allowed on a CHESS forum. I have NEVER even seen a person under 500 elo contribute ANYTHING useful to the forums, the only forum activity I see from these people are stuff like complaining that the website is filled with hackers and bots when they lose or they are getting severely freaky in OTF. Not to mention basically every immature person and troll is under 500 (1000 at the most) or they have no games on their profile. I think restricting these user's access from using the forums would greatly benefit everybody else, and would also save server space and effort from moderators

Edit: I'm not trying to say I hate beginners, we are beginners at one point. But there is a CLEAR difference between being a beginner and under 500 elo. Most people when they learn the rules of the game start at 500 at the very least, even higher sometimes. Being under 500 means that you do not understand the rules of chess very well or you don't care about chess at all

Edit (again): I made a better suggestion here, where people can choose a minimum rating for people to comment on their forum posts, please read: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/site-feedback/the-off-topic-forum-needs-to-be-reworked-111428428

I wouldn’t call under 500’s brain dead. All great players probably started under 500. I started at the rating floor of 100. However, I didn’t even know about the forums until I was like 1700.

I mean many people start above 500 because people under 500 just hang all their pieces and checkmates left and right so basically anyone who is trying a little bit should be able to easily get over at least 500. If ur under 500 that means you really aren't familiar with how all the pieces move even if you are a normal person, and if you don't really know the rules of the game you shouldn't really be on a chess forum

LOSTATCHESS

we do have restricted use only five posts are allowed in a day period from what i have been told by the site -- but quite honestly why all the venom in your posts - people play at the level they are meant to play at including 500 and down which includes me and everyone has as much right as everyone else to read and post on the forums just as you have a right not to read those posts if you want to nobody is making you read and take time away from playing chess--- that all on you

Personally, I think <300 is the "brain-dead" Elo level. But that's beside the point.

Even when I was just barely starting my (serious) chess journey, I never dropped below 500. I think the lowest I ever got was 520, and that was before I officially got a rating. After that, it was a very slow climb to where I am now. I'm not a strong player by any means, but I'm definitely better than I was a year ago.

However, I've seen some people at the "brain-dead" level who are now fairly decent. And they got there by asking questions and such in the forums. After all, you kind of need to know exactly what to do to improve if you want to...well, improve.

I think that, if restrictions were to ever exist, people below a certain Elo should be restricted to only being allowed to use the "For Beginners" tab. Then, when they reach a certain level, they unlock the rest and get free reign.

It is not nice to call people brain dead because they don't play chess very well. There are a lot of smart people simply not caring how good they are at chess. Plus, it is not about the rating, majority of novice players are not trolls. Why would some beginner asking about a particular game or general advice be restricted?

The issue is that chess. com doesn't pay for moderators and/or doesn't have enough of them, and many discussions not suitable for forum last for hours, even days sometimes when it is pretty clear that intentions of some users are not positive.

It is obvious that forum is far from the priority so things will not change.

StrategicFocus

OP should minimize smelling weed.

The best joke in this topic is the word "official" in the title.

Well, not all newcomers/novices are trolls, and not all trolls/offenders are novices. So, why not address the actual bad behavior, and simply downvote useless/spam posts and report offensive ones? Accounts that post lots of useless/offensive posts could get blocked from the forums by moderators (that could be a useful feature, I don't know if it exists).

Chomping on hanging pieces will improve your chess

Wait, I have Jewish origins, my grandfather is on the internet, at holocaust survivors list, im actually 130 IQ right now (if I tryhard and drink water enough), originally even higher, I think 200+ at 12 - 13 years old (not desire or ego, reality), I got brain traumas at childhood institue, legit info, when I was 13, and antipsych got me sick as hell, and I have literal brain damage because other beat me at head when I slept. I was doing a lot of things lately, as my Dad loved math, and physics, he was an engineer, I was learning and thinking on theorical physics for like 15 years, while playing instruments, and playing league of legends, dia mmr, working out to get healthy etc. I have really abstract thinking and good logics sometimes, wanna became dangerously smart, I came up with already self evolution algos for solving M theory at age 14, and I have a micro kernel at Github. Now ego kicked in but XD:
I legit cant escape 550 ELO, it was my max in Chess yet. I started at 27, now Im 28 years old.
I LEGIT CANT ESCAPE THIS ELO YET. I aleast thought I can get to 1500, pretty decent expectation for me, but I never would think I would hit like, 2300 + or something, also too late I think, im too old, even if I think I have an insane adaptive mind.
I thought somehow lately, that maybe, if I already have this complex and tragic life, it would fit in the story of the Universe's existence, that I somehow hit high elo in chess, and beating those guys, but actually only in my dreams, and I get famous like Bobby Fisher, in multiple areas, not just chess, to prove, and show how even with a damaged brain, and pains over 10 years, can get you any skills, goals, you want in life, that I can reprogram, and adapt, and develop myself to reach anything.

HangingPiecesChomper

I agree with op, 500 elo here cannot be a real player and 100% trolls.

psy11116954

I got to 552, what a day.

MariasWhiteKnight

Whoa how mean.

AFAIK the average rating on chess.com is just 600.

I would care with any truth, who is what, and what is who, I would say the % of humanity is an NPC troll anyway. Legit stealing others time to benefit in money and status, beauty and IQ are the most dangerous things in the world, especially when paired together. At the age of AI, when intelligence is decentralized, and easily available, I cant know, if anything has meaning at all anymore. They use AI to develop new tech, and they licence it to themself, than they make money and status from it, while others are watching what are they doing, they are fully governed and controlled by those who made it in first place, if someone is first in a new business, he will benefit from it, others maybe can be workers for a company, thats how it works.
Nowadays I cant determine, if actually intelligence helping the humanity in anyway, or it makes everything more suffering. The only factor life has in first place, what had meaning, is the survival and reproduction.

The mental health program is also for NPCs, but actually psychologist can have job if someone getting mentally ill, atleast the economy doesnt stop at that particular area. But all know, that economy, needs, food, in the first place, not chess. So I think, the most mentally strong people are those, who are making the economic chain work, not those who play chess or any type of games, but it can contribute to, give them the information, that they are not that clever, so that way they find those areas, what actually matter in the world, same how school system is. So thats how hierarchic selection and social differentiation works. I know doing nothing would be the best, but other would die from hunger in that way, if we dont have any responsibility towards others.
The same happening in these online forums, they have zero responsibility to others, zero logic, and zero knowledge, they think they can say anything based on their stupid assumptions, while Chess doesnt even matter at any type of aspects in life, but we have so much time to live nowadays, we will do it anyway, because the attack and defense mechanics is built into the brain, so everyone loves to win something.

Also having high IQ, and doing actually nothing with it, for real work whats useful to others, is the biggest unresponsibility someone can have ever. Peoples need workplace, making food, having companies, teachers, doctors, responsibility, and etc.
Im not suprised, that they troll each other, and they hate intelligence. Now whats the real question is, actually who is not troll, and actually genius, and who is making actual benefits to humanity. Sure after you did your obligations, you can have fun maybe. Also there is a big difference, what actually happening and we doing, and what are the peoples speaking or writing about. Sure the inflation can get so big, or make them big money, that way all areas will be fit by those peoples who needed at that jobs what actually matters.

The peoples are controlling each other, is actually really good, if they want to get slowed down by others to NOT get any success in anything. To escape, anything, and anyone, you have to be really big friend with yourself. But that way you again skip social responsibility. So whats good and whats not, is depending on a lot of things from a lot of perspectives. If there are no bad players, there is no good player, thats how it works.
Maybe the only meaning of chess, that it based on the universe strongest principle, which is the cause and effects mechanics, that way things can be precalculated before happens, by thinking forward, but it means, the universe is determined.
