Server Overloads Are Happening More Frequently

When I first joined in 2022, there was a server overload maybe twice for the rest of that year. Now, they keep getting more and more frequent. Shouldn't you fix this issue before it gets worse?

I was reading and responding to Forum posts this morning and was logged-out.

at least the video is kind of distracting to help pass the time

Martin_Stahl

There was a short outage and was quickly fixed.

@Boone2023 you weren't logged out; the error pages do not have session code so it's a default page layout

MegaZX_1

happened to me as well, these overloads are getting much more frequent

AbyssalSludge

Chess.com could at least buy more servers to lower the amount of outages.

escherstarbuck

Emphatically agree . Glad I stopped paying for 502?? .

I like the other one more. The one where that guy is fiddling with that wire.

@Martin_Stahl I refreshed the page several times and received the "Server Overload" screen. When I clicked on Chess.com from my browser menu, I was taken to the chess.com/home page and was at the login page/propt. I was logged-out and had to sign-in again. That is what it looked like on my end.

It had nothing to do with the number of servers.

The only real option when that starts to happen is to log out for a few hrs and try back later in the day. frustrated That's happened to me before but I don't post about it. When its not working,....its not working. Its like the New England Patriots. cry

The number of people playing this morning (Jan 8, 2024) does not seem particularly large:

I had this from last February.

Almost 160 Million members and counting. I'm surprised any server can handle 90,000 games being played at any given time. Wonder if they are using quantum computer systems..

i mean, roblox servers...

Hey @Martin_Stahl... A couple of days ago we had an exchange here where I said that I had been logged-out after receiving the "Server Overload" screen. You disagreed, and I then explained what I saw on this end.

I think we were both right in some way...

Tonight I received the Server Overload screen and took a screenshot (see below). This is the same screen that I saw previously. Take a look at the left panel. It appears that I need to login again. There was some other text which unfortunately does not appear in my screen capture, and that text asked me to "try again" or words to that effect. When I clicked on that link, I found that I was indeed logged into chess.com, but the previous pages indicated that I had been loggged-out.

Do we call that a Draw or a Bug? :-)

It just happened again as I was trying to save this, so I took another screenshot. The text I clicked on was "Play Computer" and then I was logged back into the platform.

It's not a bug. The error pages do not have session code and in the case of an error like that session code wouldn't load at all. If you were to click home or any other link and it didn't 502, then you would be still logged in, at least in the vast majority of cases. There could be a possibility that your session expires too but I don't think I've ever seen that happen.

I have been getting the server errors more often over the last week. I sometimes can’t even login after several “cooldown” waits. The videos on the error screens are not amusing to me, just puerile and irritating.

I have no interest in why it is happening, I just want it to stop so that I get the service that I have paid for.
