The ECF grading system has changed - small update for Chess.com?

In July last year, the English Chess Federation (ECF) made a switch from using 3 digit grades (between 0 and 300) to a more typical system of 4 digit grades (think FIDE-style).

All players grades were converted to the new format - for example, my grade changed from 201 (old system) to 2208 (new system). Whilst OTB chess has largely not been taking place in the intervening period, it would be great to get ahead of the curve (and I did manage to sneak in 4 graded games at the club, during a period where the local rules of pandemic were relaxed enough to permit it).

To this end, I noticed whilst editing my profile this morning that Chess.com only allows you to enter a number between 0 and 300 for the ECF feature on their profile. Could I suggest a small change - can this be edited to allow numbers between 0 and 3000 to be entered instead - then English players will be able to display their up-to-date ECF grades.

Cheers!

I like the old 3 digit system. It also debased the grades if you didn't play for a season, but one of the annoying things was that it takes ages for your ECF grade to move at all.

but yes they should let you put the new one in your profile as well

I created a Suggestion ticket for this.

Martin_Stahl: thanks for doing that, I appreciate it!

theendgame3: Sort of, the idea is that a player with ECF grade X and a player with FIDE rating X will now be perceived as roughly the same strength. The two ratings are still separate, though.

Normally national ratings are higher than FIDE ones. e.g. USCF is about equal to FIDE +150.
