Threat Arrows

When opening the analysis feature on an already posted position the side not to move's threats in the original position are being shown via the use of arrows displayed on the board.  These arrows do not go away no matter what moves are played, even sidelines, and even if the original threats no longer exist or are even no longer legal.

I first noticed this about half an hour ago after never encountering it before.  Is this a new feature or has it been here a while and I inadvertently enabled it?  And is there a way to disable this feature because I find the arrows annoying, especially when no longer relevant?

Thanks!

Yes, it has existed for quite a while, and there is a way to disable it!

  1. Go to https://www.chess.com/analysis
  2. Click on the settings gear in the top right corner of the board
  3. Go to the "Interface" tab in the settings menu
  4. Toggle off "Show Threats."

I hope this works for you. @EnPassantFork is having the same issue, and he says this setting is off. So this is a bit strange.

I figured that out after my original post and believe it or not my only interface setting not enabled was Show Threats! Also keep in mind I am only seeing the arrows that show the original position threats, by the side not to move, and those arrows never change or disappear throughout the entire analysis.

This appears to be just a glitch. It was suggested to me by a club member to toggle on and off the Show Threats switch. That got rid of the original position arrows but for each new analysis those arrows return.

Is this happening in a new analysis in the Analysis Board, starting from scratch?

PegKnights

@BryanCFB Yes. I previously mentioned that he was having this problem as well, and his setting was also off, so it is probably just a glitch.

@Martin_Stahl Whoops...we made those posts at almost the same time, wow.

This is not happening to me for analysis I am creating on or posting to an analysis board. It is only happening when I open the analysis tab on already posted analysis, such as clicking the analysis magnifying glass on an already posted interactive analysis diagram. Then the position appears with the threat arrows for the side not to move.

screenshot example

I opened this page shown above after posting my daily puzzle analysis in a club forum by clicking the magnifying glass on the forum posted analysis. Then the pictured screen showed up with the red arrows, showing white's threats.

No matter what I do on the analysis board from there these same arrows remain, such as in the next screenshot, the puzzle solution final position.

Martin_Stahl

Thanks. I'll try to find examples later to recreate.

Martin_Stahl

Found one and recreated the issue.

I'm having the same problem. Red threat arrows are now on for the first move on the analysis board when reviewing problems, and I can't turn them off. The toggle switch does nothing. This has been for two days now. (And while I generally appreciate all help, I can see "pawn takes queen" for myself. )

Well these red arrows do not help at all when they still show white threats after white has just been checkmated like in my second screenshot.happy

Clearly it is a glitch and it seems @Martin_Stahl has seen this for himself and hopefully he shares this glitch with the support team.

If another example might be useful, load this problem...

... and hit the 'analysis' button. I get red arrows for Black playing both Queen x Pawn and Rook x King, which I guess indicates 'check' (making QxP moot). This is with the "show threats" toggle off.

FWIW

BryanCFB

The beginning position red threat arrows seem to have disappeared! I encountered them a little while ago and toggled the Show Threats switch on and off to temporarily remove them and just now when I opened a different analysis it was arrow free!
