I'd like to bump this. I still haven't been able to find a setting to turn this off. (Notice it around the c8 square. I have never seen that before)

I noticed today that when dragging pieces, the square that my mouse is hovering over will have a white border. This makes the board look a lot busier than it really is, and it makes me lose focus in fast games. I could not find a setting to turn this off.
