I don't care how many pons (don't know exact the right english word) you get across. There should be only 1 Queen in the game. My opponant know has 2! That is impossible.
GodsPawn2016

No its not impossible.  Your opponent promted a pawn to a queen.  Its part of the game.

Max number of queens for a player is 9. You start with 1, and potentially all 8 pawns can promote to queens. Anything more than 9 queens of 1 color is an illegal position.

I played a game recently where I got 4 queens. XD

Somebody should have notified Fischer and Petrosian that they weren't allowed to have more than one queen!

You may be confused because the physical board and pieces that you can buy usually come with only one queen of each color. But that doesn't mean you can't have more. Many people will use an upside down rook to indicate a queen, or just use any other piece and remember that it's a queen. You can also use coins, bottle caps, or stones, or anything else that fits on the square.

And nicer tournament sets generally have a second queen in them

It could have many queens the maximum is nine, because they promoted their pawn as a queen. It can happen when the pawn reached the edge of the opponent. So that is why they can have more queens.

I believe ijgeoffrey may be correct?

I know this is an older post but while searching for information, it brought me here.

about 20 years ago when I was in my 30s

I played a game of chess a gentleman brought to a party, he said it was based on an original, ancient game of chess.

This game had an extra row of squares on the board and there were a total of four queens on the board, one on each side of the king.

ive been trying to find information on this game ever since.

It was quite an interesting version to play.
