Automated Spell and Grammar Check

This site needs to invoke spell check every time a person hits the Submit button.

I have NEVER seen a Website with such uneducated people before that spell as bad as they do here.  I'm not even talking complicated words.

However, when you start all your sentences lowercase, and put in words like "begginers", or "preffer", or entire messages written in text language or even worse than that, outright horrible spelling.

All messages should go thru an automatic spell check, and if the user bypasses more than 3 misspellings, the message doesn't post!

You read half the messages on this site, and realize how uneducated this world has become!

I agree that most users on this site are ignorant of correct language and grammar. However, some are from another country and we shouldn't hold grudges.

But at least try to spell right. And don't substitute numbers for words ("i went 2 the stor and ggot some candy 4 my kids") that is an example. Some are worse.

I'm not referring to say, a Norwegian, misspelling a few English words.  I see Americans and Brits, where English is their primary language, unable to display any ability in written communication.

My wife even teaches high school, and she has gotten papers written so horribly it makes you wonder if they ever learned anything.  The papers are filled with a mix of text language (which should be used for texting, not posting to a blog, applying for a job, writing a paper, etc), nonsense, and more nonsense.  So she even see the same thing first hand.

Instead of trying to pick apart the point with literals and things like that, try reading what the message is intended to say.  Common sense should enable you to differentiate.

Many are from another country which makes it excusable.

Being an American or a Brit doesn't mean English is their first language.

There is no excuse for the usage of text language though.

I'm with Skulls on this one.  The contrast between those who take the time to carefully sculpt their posts and the "Txtng" crowd who are almost unreadable is amusing, and let's face it, amusement is why we're here.

Ah, as a foreigner I think it is very good that people writing in their native language should have their posts scrutinized by a spell and syntax checker! If we read only proper British and American, unless it comes from non native speakers, then might we, foreigners, learn more from your good examples.

But not posting is imo too harsh. There is freedom of speech and we all do not have equal capacity in writing - like in chess. To make an analogy: when are you allowed to play a game of chess? Only when you understand it sufficiently?

Some weeks ago, there was already a thread about this subject:

nothing wrong with starting in lower case. it has attained a kind of convention as a casual online mode, without connoting ignorance or disregard for the reader.

Wow...just wow!  Invoke?  Really?

Your grammar and syntax is sorely lacking.  Plus, you could stand to work on your comma placement.

Yoikes!

First off, like #11, absolutely not!  I still view improper sentence structure, such as not starting with a capital letter, to be a Moron's use of the language.

Also, what says the spell and grammar check can't be multi-lingual?  Include a dropdown for language.  English, Spanish, French, Russian, Greek, Portuguese, Dutch, and whatever others you want to add, and then when you hit "Submit", it will spell check according to the language chosen.

It works the other way too.  Why should I post "cuatro" or "quatro" (whichever is the wrong one, not sure)?  Have it go thru the Spanish spell check and that way even I can post properly in languages that aren't my native either!

An adverb checker might assist some.

I believe that the essence of the statement is more important in a cha forum.

Any thoughts on the view that Internet/text conventions and spelling is simply literary evolution and its rather like trying to hold back the tide...watch this space! :0)

While i can agree that the essence is what's important, the problem is the essence can't be conveyed because of the sometimes intentionally poor spelling.

This site is "International" .... let's keep that in mind please :)

If I say "i dissagree" or "I disagree" do you understand what I'm saying either way? :0)

If you focus on the spelling and punctuation too much clearly you run the risk of missing the point, but maybe that's the readers problem rather than the author? :0)

I get it Mr. Crab.....some people get itchy with the spelling and grammar

Thnx!

Oh i didn't mean the minor misspelling errors. I've come across some text where a group of people had to try and decipher what was said.

eBay is a great place to work.
