Badge App Notifications in iOS unreliable

I'm on the latest iOS 9 version. I have been noticing for ages that when someone makes a move in one of my games I do not always get a notification. This morning I received an email advising that one of my games was about to time out after three days. when I looked at the app icon there was no number in the badge area. I also play on my iPad and I notice that at times there is a number on the app icon when there are actually no games where I am in a position to move.
as a result I just don't trust the badge app icon.

Have you given our app permission to push notifications to you? This is something that must be done from your iPhone's settings. 

 

Settings --> Notifications --> Chess --> Allow Notifications

 

If that isn't turned on, then we have something to figure out

I'm having the same issue. Notifications are fully enabled. The red badge icon appears when I open, then close the app. Plus I get notifications on the home screen. Just no red badge icon :(

Same here on iOS 9 latest, upgraded to iOS 10, and still having the same issue. Notifications work, badge does not. All notifications are enabled.

I have the same problem in iOS 10.02 (iPhone SE) and chess.com app v3.3.20. Notifications will alert me by sound but will not add a red badge icon to the app button on home screen. If I open and close the app the badge is shown. Thanks for an otherwise great app!

Yes we are aware of this bug and are working to fix it. It won't require an app update since it's a server issue.

Have you noticed improvements in the last few days? In my tests this is working fine now
