good question... I think that when you click "play", the system starts looking for other players and as soon as it finds 4, it groups them together in a match. So theoretically it's possible to play with your friends, but it's very unlikely that the system will put the four of you together.
I don't think they have enabled a feature like "play vs a friend" yet for 4 people chess
Well but do you know if they will include that idea in the future? or how could we reclaim that possibility?
i don't know if they'll implement that feature... they have an e-mail address, you can try and write to them.
I wrote to them once to ask if they wanted me to proofread the Italian version of the website, because it has some mistakes, but they didn't reply...
Then writting that email makes no sense, I hope they'll do something!
