Chess.com Leaderboard

I would like to suggest that Chess.com incorporate a 'Leaderboard' for Live-Player rankings.  I am aware of this page, and it almost does the job well, but I think it would be better with some adjustments.

1. Number each position on the left hand side.

2. Remove players who have not played at least 100 games.

3. Give players an 'opt-out' option, in case they wish to remain anonymous.

I think a ranking board would give players an extra competitive incentive, and result in more games being played on the site.  I am not a programmer, but I can't imagine that it would require very much work to implement this.  The Leaderboard page would basically be a copy of the link above, with some minor adjustments to the data.

i disagree with number 2

i am thinking that players with small number of games its unfair to be compared with players that played thousand of games. On the other side next to the rating we can see the number of games someone played, the wins, the losses ,and the draws and anyone can make his own thoughts about the value of each rating

for example:

geniousIQ has rating 2548,31 wins,0 losses and 0 draws.if i were him, i would like to see my name in the top ranked players.he bit a lot of top players to have this ranking but he never lost.i dont think he must play 100 games to prove himself..

also fon number 3:

if they have an account on chess.com it means they dont care about anonymity

each player has a public profile and anyone can see his personal info

one other option is to have a different public name and real name and can be anonymous

Hi Dimitros,

About #3, I think it's nice to offer people the chance to be removed from the leaderboard.  What if my name appears last on the list?  Or maybe I have played 300 games and never won a game.  I might not want everyone to see me on the leaderboard.  Maybe this problem could be eliminated by only showing the top 1000 or top 10000 players etc.  But even if you are a great player with a huge rating, if you appear in the top 50 players, then people are going to see your account all the time.  You will get friend invites, messages, challenges.  I think it is fair to offer people the chance of escaping such publicity.

The biggest reason for needing 100 games (or some other number) is the variance.  Playing just one game on the site could put you high on the leaderboard just because your opponent got disconnected for example.  Another rule should be that a player must have played against many different opponents (maybe 20).  This would stop the possibility of a player gaining a lot of points from a friend, or beating a computer over and over with an identical line.

The other point of needing 100 games is so that it encourages people to play more on the site.  The owners don't want people to win 3 games and then stop playing because they love their rating.  To get your name on the board, you should have to play more regularly on the site, and I don't think 100 is a very large number.  There has to be some benefit for the site to spend the time creating a leaderboard page.

ok you convinced me at one point

but what is the worth of a leaderboard that most of the leaders are not appeared because they dont like publicity??

Because if enough people don't appear, then maybe we can be in the top 10.  hahahah.

Well, it's true that if a lot of people don't appear, then it will have no value.  But I don't expect many people to take that option.  After all, most people probably won't go looking for the option to opt-out.  It would only be useful in specific cases where someone might suffer abuse.  It's probably a good idea for the site to offer that protection.

Of course, these are only suggestions.  The main thing is to a Leaderboard up, and I hope the site owners like the idea!
