Click Move Option

I would love it if I could move a piece by clicking on it and then clicking on the square I want to move it to. Similarly, for the mobile app I’d like to be able to tap the piece and then tap the square that I want to move it to. The current drag-and-drop system makes it so easy to accidentally drop the piece on the wrong square. I know some people like drag-and-drop, but there should be an option so people can choose what is best for them.

It seems like it would be pretty simple to implement, I’m not sure why it hasn’t been done before. I can’t be the only person who dislikes drag-and-drop! If chess.com makes this feature available, I will definitely upgrade to platinum account.

This is a good suggestion.  All of the better GUIs (Winboard, Scid vs. PC) offer both options simultaneously, and there is no good reason that I can think of that chess.com couldn't and shouldn't do the same thing.

We do have that feature :-) For computers (not touchscreens) you can click the peice you want to move and then click its destination square and it will work!

Why not for touchscreens?

As I do not own a touch screen device, I was not too sure of whether we have a touch and touch feature or a touch and drag feature to move the pieces.

I've now confirmed with my coleague that for touch screens we only have the touch and touch feature (touch piece then touch destination square).

Are you sure? I have the chess.com app that I downloaded from the google play store and I’ve only been able to move pieces by doing touch and drag. To clarify, I’ve only played online chess on the chess.com app. Is it touch and touch for live games but hold and drag for online games? Maybe your colleague has the apple version and it’s different from the android version?

Wow I'm dumb. Turns out you can do touch move on the android app. I guess I just didn't realize it because I was expecting the square to highlight or something when I touched it. Will get my membership when I get home on sunday
