Why not just write "handshake" in the chat box to start the game?
Hand shake

i would prefer the choice the the green smiley face ( like the yellow faces here at the site ) as it has a big grin and the red devil smiley. either one is good to open, close or comment in the middle of the game without having to type something up.

I know what you mean, Stephen.
I tend to say good afternoon/morning - whatever it is at the start of the game. At the end I try to remember to thank them for the game, whatever the result. And I don't mind admitting when I've been blindsided with a killer move.
I respect the fact that some people don't want to chat, but a little basic etiquette would be welcome.

I think it would be fun to be able to press a button and an out stretched hand appears in the chat box. And then when the opponent does the same a hand shake appears.
It replicates what happens "over the board" and just seems better than other options like Gl or hi or...............

Not a bad idea. There's also the;
Firstly, cool site, thank you!
My idea.
On starting a game of chess it's good to start off with a greeting but what? Some write, good luck, but I don't wish the opposition good luck exactly.
I tend to just do nothing but what I'd like is a hand shake button that each player could push and a handshake could appear on the screen, when both players have pushed it.
Best,
Stephen
