Okay retards, if you are going to force abandonment just for taking some time to examine a MOVE even though there is TONS of time left on the CLOCK
then AT LEAST YOU NEED TO MAKE A AUDIBLE WARNING.

Sounds like connection issues. Chess.com doesn't automatically deem a game abandoned on inactivity alone. You have to be also disconnected from the server, i.e. closing the browser or disconnecting from the internet. If you have bad internet connection, your browser may not even notify you that you've disconnected, which is likely why you get the sudden "so-and-so Abandoned the Game" message.

That thread seems to be about games getting aborted or stalled, not abandoned. A bit different.

No, they are now forcing abandonment - this has now happened more than once - it is NOT a connection issue. They instituted a new policy that foces abandonment even when you havbe plenty of time on the clock.
No warning bell nothing - just "blip" you are now abaondoned.
Thanks.
THis is how it is working NOW:
1) Player A makes a move
2) Player B takes a very long time to move.
3) While waiting for Player B to move, PLayer A looks at another webpage.
4) Player A does not hear the sound that player B moved as the sound is hard to hear, and sometimes does not even play.
5) Player A check back on the game after a minute or two, but find that in fact, the server has forced it as "abandoned" since player A did nto respond in time, despite the fact that the delay was instigated by player B taking an inordinate amount of time to respond.
6) The people programming Chess.com one again show they have no clue. Congrats!
That can't be true. I've played a game recently with 15/10 where I've taken nearly 10 minutes for a single move without the server terminating the game prematurely. I may get a one of those "fair play policy" warnings, but I've never lost a game this way.
You've stated in your opening post that the game was terminated right after your opponent made his move. This is typically what happens when there is a lag of information between the chess.com server and one's computer, then suddenly updating.
It just happened again.
I didn't notice that the opponent EVEN MADE A MOVE - and I had been left waiting for several minutes. WHile I was waiting, I was reading another webpage.
When the opponent moved, I did not hear a sound, and notice that he moved. The web page was up fron on Monitor 2, and I was reading in monitor 3.
Then the server called it an abandoned game with 5:28 left on my clock.
There was NO WARNING. It jus called it abandoned. There was no "disconnected" notice, nor"attempting to reconnect".
Just a SUDDEN END OF THE GAME- THE SERVER CALLING IT ABANDONED, WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER.
OKAY, here are TWO reasonable solutions tho this issues:
1) When an player has ONLY ONE LEGAL MOVE, allow the opponent to click "Force Move" to force the one move.
2) When a player has a serious piece imbalance, (like king only against King/Rook), THEN and ONLY THEN would it be permissible to have an anti stallin gprovision, such as 60 seconds per move or something.
But this arbitrary crap has to stop. And it IS arbitrary. For instance, I just had this guy in a LOST position - he had only a K and I had K/R - and he deceided to take 4 minutes per move. THIS is stalling - but did you force abandon HIM?
NO YOU DID NOT.
Your "rules" are arbirary, and sensless. They have no relation to reality nor the situations that are encountered here on Chess.com.
"Chess.com - run by jerks." think that will help ?
Edited now - I was really REALLY ticked off at the time because in the one ame I was in a good posiiton, and just waiting for the other guy to move. Just because I missed his move, I am the one getting penalized.
Wrong. The fair play policy decides how much time per move is "appropriate" in any given position. You can be considered to have abandoned the game even if you're in a deep think. Not exactly fair. or appropriate unless you consider chess.com's version of chess a fringe variant.
Yes, I'm well aware that being inactive can infringe the Chess.com fair play policy. However, I'm sure that the fair play policy cannot terminate a game prematurely. It just gives you a warning after the game has finished. The only real consequence is that breaking the policy multiple times would limit your live chess activity.
But I agree that the Fair Play Policy needs some fixing. Chess.com should not be able to place some hidden time constraint outside of what was agreed upon at the start of the game.

I was waiting for my opponent to move. ONce he moved I heard the move sound and looked a the board - but then the server ABANDONDED THE GAME and I have over 7 minutes left on my clock ?!?!?! WTF??
Then the server stated that the "game was abandonded" buy ME, and my opponent was awarded a WIN.
This is RETARDED.
If you want to make a minimum move, then MAKE A SEPARATE CLOCK FOR IT. Show total time, then a PER MOVE TIME.
But the policy is BS.
I am at home - I have to answer the door to reeive a package or whatever. You are saying I can't??
Or I am waiting for my oppoinent to move - he is taking a long time, so I go to the fridge to get a drink... and I don't hear the move sound (whcih is hard to hear in teh first place) so I do realize he moved right away, and then you call the game abaondoned?
YOU ARE IDIOTS.
