Should there be some minigames on chess.com?

So recently I've been wondering: Chess.com has live chess, correspondence chess, vote chess, etc, which are great, but all of them are simply different variations of the same game. I think it would be great if there were some chess-related minigames on this site. For example, wouldn't it be awesome if there was a first person shooter where you play as a chess piece of your choice and shoot at other chess pieces? Or how about a mini-RPG, where you play as a little pawn trying to make its way through enemy lines and promote to a queen, and then come back, kill the old queen, and become the one and only queen of the empire? I think if chess.com had games like those then definitely more people would join. And you could even get more people to pay by making the best games only available to paying members.

What are everyone else's thoughts on my suggestions?

Bump, because chess.com staff really need to see this.

The Internet is full of minigames, you just have to open a new tab.

True, but there aren't that many chess-themed minigames, so if chess.com created some and made them available on this site it would definitely attract more customers, expecially from younger age groups.

This makes little sense.

What? You don't think chess-themed fps and rpg games r a good idea?

I didn't say that. I just think it makes little sense.

I may not agree with you, but for me, this whole site functions like an RPG. Smile

Your stats are your different ratings, your party members are the people in your Friends list, the titled members are the boss enemies and every person in Live Chess is an NPC who you have to defeat in order to become ... the very best Chess player who ever was!!!

Google Hex Empire. There's some inflated chess for you.

Yeah, I've played that before. Or at least I've tried playing it. It's way too abstract for me to enjoy it.

I know what an RPG is (raised on a few of them). Never heard of FPS and no clue on "minigame". Anyone want to bring an older guy up to speed?

An FPS is a first-person shooter. Basically all you see on the screen is a hand holding a weapon with which the player mows down any enemies in front of him.

A minigame is exactly what it's called: A small game with which you can distract yourself, once you've had enough of the main dish, so to speak. You wouldn't come to Chess.com for them, but to one of the other countless sites which host them (like Kongregate.com).

bump.
i wouldnt say mini games like those you described, but a game mode where random powerups show up at random locations in the board. or where different pieces have different powers.
but my favorite idea is: you would have a secret mission during the game, like "end the game with both rooks" or "trade light squared bishops" or "end the game with 3 pawn islands". no one knows each other's missions! that would be cool. the game would be won by points. for example, drawing would give players equal points, winning on time gives 100 points (for example) , mating gives 250, and each mission gives a certain number of points!
example game:
i mate my opponent, i would have 250 points, but lets say that i didnt do any mission!
each player has a final mission like "ending the game with [etc] " and regular missions, that when you complete, you get another one without the game ending, for example, "Take your opponent's h pawn".
and in the end, besides mating my opponent, he completed lots of missions and he would have 300 points. he is the winner of the match, even though he lost the chess game itself :)
what do you guys think about this idea?

What? R u saying it's a good idea to have fps games on chesskid?

Also, there's no need to worry about minigames taking away from the site's chess content. First of all, I'm simply advocating for the addition of minigames, not for getting rid of any of the types of chess that r available. Also, even right now chess.com is no longer really a serious site. Think about it: what percentage of the threads you see on the forums are really serious, chess related threads? Personally speaking, since currently there r no minigames on chess.com, I entertain myself by trolling on the forums. But if there were some good minigames, then I would spend more time playing and less time trolling, which would actually help to make this site more serious.

Ha ha, the game of chess itself apparently isn't 'exciting' enough for the impoverished intellect of the American youth of today, so they must come up with some sort of 'diversion' to amuse themselves. Typical.

Name one place in the world where a majority of young people consider chess "exciting."

Chess.com used to be perfectly fine.

Until all you brats escaped from chesskids and overun the forums. :)
