Thanks. This is one problem, especially, opp moves but chess.com doesnt make the move BUT starts my clock. When i reload the page i see the move being made. Too late then, time is lost.

Another problem is the pieces being 'sticky'. For example take a piece and move your mouse around very fast. Do this with an older laptop without graphics card and you will see that li... performs much better in this. And it is not just the pieces, there is a delay whatever i click on live chess.

I guess this is due to over exessive use of slow performing javascript libraries instead of vanilla js.

Also disturbing, when a disconn happens, li... shows a red text at the top which informs me but doesnt disturb me (not that this happens often on li... ). chess.com instead shows a message which flashes all the time. Good bye concentration. Edit: it is not the message, the clocks start flashing.

Just a tip - If you are using Chrome browser, try stopping and restarting hardware acceleration...it worked for me before.

Yes I dont play here, just surf the article. It lags like hell comparing to another playing site. The mechanism is [removed -- VP](poor nakamura)

@Chessboogie i tried that, not sure if this had an effect but thanks for the tip.

Still it lags terribly. I once made 40 moves in nine seconds on li... something like this is unthinkable on chess.com. It is luck if i am able to make a move in one second, it is luck if i am able to premove a piece. I just cant bam bam bam premove. After the first premove there is a delay and i can not move any piece. Premoving should be the main thread and everything else should stop when i premove. But anyhow, as long as some background things run, premoving is not possible. And that the pieces are so sticky... ugh. What a terrible GUI chess.com has.

Again, it can not be my connection, as i have zero problems like that on li...

The majority of my games, 80%, is decided by random connection luck, not by position.

There may be many reasons. Try these things

1. Clear Your Cache: Simple I know, but a bad cookie can do quite a bit of damage!

2. Update Your Browser: Make sure you are using the latest and greatest version of whatever browser you prefer.
Chrome: https://www.google.com/intl/en_US/chrome/browser/
Firefox: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?v=1
Safari: https://support.apple.com/downloads/safari
IE: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/internet-explorer.aspx

3. Disable Browser Extensions: Sometimes there are browser extensions which alter the JavaScript or other files used for playing. Or, they might be altering your connection in some way.

4. Close Other Programs: close down any other programs or browser tabs on your computer that might be using memory and system resources so that your browser has the maximum resources available.

5. Use a Wired Connection: Sometimes it is an unstable WiFi connection causing the issue. Perhaps try being closer to your router, or even using a wired connection.

6. Verify that your security, ad blocker, or popup blocker is not disturbing the connection. (just remember to turn it back on after the test!)

7. There is an option which allows you to customize your connection with chess.com server. Feel free to follow this article to allow you to pick the kind of connection to Chess.com which best suits your setup.https://www.chess.com/blog/News/how-to-adjust-your-live-chess-connection

Thanks @chessboogie, for your help.

These points are all valid possible causes of my problem. For example if i use chess.com with my Firefox, who has a few addons installed, it gets even worse.

But even with the latest chrome without any addons, with a clean cache and no addons chess.com 1) performs suboptimal and 2) i (and my opps) get disconns all the time.

The only point that would fit my case is 5. i use a prepaid internet stick. And i cant change that. However, as i said, i rarely have disconnection issues with li...

Also, i wonder, why time doesnt get added back to the clock when a disconn/reconn happens. The clock starts to flash (which is a terrible usability, because it disturbs the thinking. Coloring it red or graying it out would suffice) and when it reconnects the clock suddenly has ten seconds less ...

Martin_Stahl

The clocks flashes when it is disconnected and the site only allows a certain amount of time for lag and won't give back most time for disconnects. If they did, then it would be possible to purposely extend your thinking time by forcing local disconnects.

That said, the site also can only control a very small portion of the connection. They have no control over the quality of the connection between you and the Live servers and can't control other software on your system. Also, comparing to the quality of the connection between you and other sites doesn't mean much since the path to their servers likely only share a very small part of the path that the route to Chess.com does.

Ok, i just removed everything ad related from this website, using different tools. This has significantly increased performance, even if it is far away from li... performance. Also the cooler of my laptop doesnt go crazy any more.

I have nothing against ads, if they dont flash, if they dont pop in my way and if they dont slow down my computer. Chess.com ads do all three things --> away with it. Oops, a 'You have an adblocker' message --> away with that also.

Regarding the flashing clocks, this is a bad design. Everything which constantly flashes is a bad design. --> away with that also.

Drugs_Bunny

Yeah it's the ads. I've been here off and on for years and always said all those ads bog down the site and affect live chess. People always said the ads don't affect live chess and I say BS to that. A few months ago I tried premium membership (no ads)... Live chess was considerably faster with little to no lag and in that entire month I never got disconnected from a game. Soon as I let the membership expire, all those issues returned.... Hmmmm.

Artyom_Zharikoff

Actually this lag issue forced me to even try different operating systems on different computers! And these tries didn't help me. In bullet, especially when only 10 seconds left, pieces become as you said "sticky". I thought, maybe, it's time to upgrade my pc but recently I've watched stream of well known young IM Andrew Tang that played bullet on another popular chess site for couple of hours and in the middle of it he switched to chess.com to play another IM that challenged him. To my surprise, he lost couple of games due to these "sticky" or as someone joked there "pieces on chess.com are heavy! each is 15 kilos at least". Then he just switched back, telling everyone that playing on chess.com and streaming at the same time is just impossible due to these lags in bullet games! And he also mentioned  that he has decent pc with 16 gb ram. You can check it on youtube.

Jouer sur ce site et profiter de toutes ses options est difficile quand on ne parle pas anglais...

??? it works perfectly fine

It might be because of your wifi or device.

i have a fast computer and a fast (hard-wired) internet connection. the problem ain't at my end...

SoDamnMetal

I've tried every suggestion mentioned other than the wired connection and nothing has helped. I highly doubt wifi is my problem as i have zero issues on the alternative (superior) chess site. In fact my blitz and bullet ratings are virtually identical there, while my bullet rating here is 350 points lower than my blitz. All because the pieces literally stick and snap back to the board making bullet play impossible. This mostly happens when the time gets low on the clock, though it does occur from time to time at the beginning of the game. Clearly the UI needs an overhaul and until then the alternative (superior) site will be my go to site for chess. wink.png

Edit: I just noticed they artificially increased "active" bullet players ratings by 150 points because of large differences between players bullet and blitz ratings. Not really sure what this will accomplish because the issue, (UI lag) is the reason and they aren't addressing it.

What is the other chess Website that doesn’t have these lag issues?
