And is the banning system robust? Because the same people that go afk, have accounts that date back to 2012 or 2011. to think that they haven't been banned yet, is to wonder how many players have they griefed over the years
Too many 10|0 unrated players go afk when losing

When I complained to staff about someone who abandoned games I was told it doesn't matter because I still win... It's no mystery why I won't pay for premium membership.

Hi, Toro & Meow. I can't stand those people! But of course they are out there... Have you ever created a ticket for support about it?
I suggest you click on the "Help & Support" link at the bottom of the page and then click on the button on the lower left that says, "Contact Support". There you can create a ticket about the abuser or you can make a feature suggestion.
I don't mean to sound like a scumbag but it's their time. They can do whatever they want with it. That's freedom. If we tell people they can't use their time however they want, what's the point in having it?
It's a difficult issue and I really can't say what's right. On the one hand, it's THEIR time. On the other hand, they destroy the integrity of the site. So my suggestion is to report them and to give the game as evidence and to block the person: http://support.chess.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/38/1/how-can-i-block-another-user
I hope that helps.

Hi, thanks for responding. Yes I did, and yes I have...I've realized what the real problem is. The real problem is me and my attachment to a rating that means nothing...From now on I'm just going to resign when people hold my time hostage. I'll end up with a rating of 10 or 20, lol. Can't believe I get so worked up over the passive agressiveness of losers.
I don't care if someone abandons a game because life is more important (I get it), but when they choose to use their last couple moves to waste time and server resources I think you'll find there's a financial bottom-line these vampires are affecting.
It would be nice to block certain countires...I find an incredibly large percent of sore losers come from one country. Everyone knows where I'm talking about.
Meow.

You're absolutely right. The financial bottom-line is not good.
I have played sore losers and cheaters from many countries so I don't know which one you're talking about, hehe. But of course you don't have to say if you don't want to.
I have a meeting with my supervisor on Monday and I'll definitely bring up the issue and see what the protocol is. It disgusts me but at the same time I can see that it's not a clear issue.
Thanks, again, Meow. Suggestions from players like you always keep Chess.com moving forward.

Wow its awesome to see a reply from Squarology, ive watched all his video series on youtube. Thanks, will do!

Hey, Toro, thanks, man. I really liked your suggestion. I'm not a programmer so I don't know how feasible it is but of course I'll mention it!

Thanks for the replies, Squarology!
I was joking about banning an entire country - that would go against the spirit of chess big time. Just being a bit facetious. I've met so many great people from darn near all countries on Chess.com, I'd hate to miss the opportunity to play someone because their whole country was banned.
Thought I should clear that up so you don't suggest banning [COUNTRY NAME HERE] to your boss, getting you in hot water.
I've come to the conclusion that I've just been getting shafted by bots when the game hangs like that just before losing. I just wish their bots would just make a random move when it calculates 0% chance of success, instead of hanging there, waiting for the notification screen to come up so it can loop again and cheat on some other cat who thinks he's playing a human.
This is not just a rare occurence, its like 1 out of 3 games. I know it gets better when you start playing ranked games, but I am just a beginner and I'm playing unrated to get better. I am starting to love the game of chess, but the playlists for people that are just getting into chess should be more enjoyable. I am currently writing this while waiting for a person whos stopped playing at 8 minutes left, now its finally winding down.
Suggestion: After 3 minutes of not moving, add an alert message that says "Please click yes if you're still playing". This allows people in 10|0, 15|0 to not feel forced to play fast, but weeds out the people that went afk. If they don't click it within 30 seconds, then the game is considered Abandoned.
