walking away

I'm a little tired of this - people walking away from games to save their ranking, or people walking away knowing you'll lose patience and give up. These are huge time wasters! There doesn't seem to be any penalty for doing this.

.. At least the 'wasted time' involved, is partially in your Own hands !

- Ergo - Play, No slower, than a '3 I 2', time- control ; Also, learn to 'meditate' in silence ; Whilst sourcing, feelings of Not being perturbed, by most Anything !  <- Not, fully there, myself. .. jajajaja

So, if someone "leaves their chair", and doesn't return to finish the game - the answer is to reward them. Whatever.

Kay, chessdude is 2Q.    We should keep score. He's had 15 sock-puppet accounts.  Ok, he's 16Q

This is a rather silly complaint. Sure, people are immature and act like losers hoping you will have to resign before they run out of time, but just let their clock keep ticking. Find something else to do, it does waste time and that punishes you in a way, but either way, they will lose.

These responses are a bit surprising to me, since walking away as opposed to resigning impacts the ranking.

Played a real time game the other day, and after sitting there for a few minutes waiting for my opponent to move, I decided to check Facebook. When I went back to the Chess app, it had put me down for loss - certainly not what I expected as I had over an hour on the clock.

As they say, live and learn.

Every single tournament here on Chess.com is being ruined by somewhat similar behavior, as at least half of the field of every tournament drops out after their first or (at best) second loss.  This really skews the whole tournament, as now other players don't have an opportunity to play them whereas the player who did (and beat them) gains that advantage.  It's really started to make tournaments here simply no fun at all.

But what do you expect from free of charge tournaments played under anonymity? Already, in OTB tournaments where peope paid, play under their real name and ID, and face possible federal suspension, they give up a tournament after losing too many games in a row, or taking a bad start. I'm not surprised it's even worse whith chess online...
