Why is it taking so long to find an opponent now?

I've been playing on Chess.com everyday for the past 3-4 years and I've always thought this site the best chess site around. Today it appears something has changed. Now every time I place a seek, I get a popup suggesting that I do not use any custom time control or rating range. What the hell is going on? All the time I've been playing on here, whenever I place a seek, I get an opponent within a minute or so. Now when I place a seek, it takes forever to find an opponent. It's really frustrating to have to wait for so long.

Are the custom settings now only available for paid members or something?

Check out staff member DeepGreene's posts in this thread.  You're right, there is new "logic":

Thanks!

I fail to see how this is an improvement though. It's ridiculously hard to find an opponent using customized settings. Yesterday I placed a seek and after a couple of minutes wait I started browsing around. I got an opponent after nearly 10 mins. I had forgotten I had placed a seek.

Surely this thing is not fully optimized yet.

I agree! The changes are a downgrade.

Yes, it's so annoying. I have to wait forever to play someone now.

Have you found one yet??  How about now??  Are we there yet??  Ok, how about now?   NOW??   How about now ??  Maybe slow motion,  N...O...W...??

I find it fascinating that chess.com considers it an upgrade when it makes it nearly impossible to find a game when there are literally more than 15,000 people logged onto the server.

Agree,used to take 30 sec,now 20 min.

Do you people even bother to read the thread? The most likely reason you don't get a game is because your min rating is set to people higher than you.

I agree, I found this to be true. It's jsut started in the past two weeks......I hope chess.com changes whatever they did back, or improve this new thing.

Ok i read DeepGreens forum post, it sounds amazing, but it is taking longer to get an opponent now.....I'm not sure what they could do though.

just double click one of the close-by-to-you green dots on the New Game tab.

I haven't had any problems. Most games pop up in less than a second.

I found this to be helpful:

Appreciate the info, Deep. Thanks. However, I have heard of people posting seeks and not getting responses ... just a Matching message ... perhaps they are posting unusual time controls ... I don't know.

Yes, that could easily be the case... Things that will definitely make people wait longer:

1. Unrated seeks (a little anyway)

2. Custom time-controls

3. Customized opponent-rating min/max ranges - especially those that don't include the seeker's current rating.

In other words, if you hate the time control options that chess.com offers (I do, they are nothing close to what I want), you are out of luck.  It was already hard to get a game, this makes it MUCH harder--next to impossible.

Thanks.
