Hello All,

I am trying to see how many chess.com players are going to the Chicago Open this year. I have started a group for those interested in learning more about the open and what you may find there.

Join us to find out more. Hope to see you there.

Your uscf is over 1300 so how can you play the under 1300 section ?

Keyif

His quick is around 1200 does that matter?

TheOldReb

Only if quick chess time controls are used.

Keyif

Not last year. So I would guess not.

Mattlh

I'll be playing in the U1700 section, four day.  Need all the time I can get LOL.

According to your rating you are rated above 1300.  I doubt we will be playing each other; unless you purposely drop your rating before the tournament.Undecided

TheOldReb

Whats the prize for first place under 1300 ?

Keyif

Currently 882 so I will be there for the U900 but will be there for the whole weekend.

I think its $3000  plus you compete for extra prizes if (like me) your rating is under 1100!!!Laughing

TheOldReb

$3,000. for first under 1300 ?!!  Thats nuts..... if the prizes were like that when I started out I would never let my rating go over 1400 !  Such prizes certainly do not encourage players to increase their ratings !

Keyif

Here is the prize info

U900, for me. I'm looking forward to it; it will be my first time in the open. I haven't got a USCF membership yet, so I can't be quite sure what my official rating is, although I'm pretty sure it's within that range.

Reb, Aye. it's tempting to throw my next tournament, then play for $12000 in the World Open U1400 or for $7000 in the U1100. But it's not worth the bother because I know there will be at least a couple 2000-level "1400s" and 1700-level "1100s" competing.

The entry fees are steep too, and once you win a big U1300 prize, I don't think you are eligible to keep winning them with Continental Chess (tho I'm not sure, it's been 10 years since I rose through the ranks and won those prizes).

DocRoy

I going for the U1300.  Maybe next year I will be more prepared and equip to move up to the U1700.

CCBTheDestroyer

Doc Roy what is your USCF rating?

DocRoy

just check and my current uscf regular rating is 1341 but it is provsional (only 20 games) and my quik rating is 1244.  Check 2 times again today via phone and I am assured of being allowed to play in the U1300 section.  So be afraid, be very afraid.  I am coming to wreck HAVOC......
