How do you score leaderboard points?

How do the "Leaderboard Points" work?  I have been in the lead in a tournament, but I still have not scored any leaderboard points.  Does the tournament have to have a certain completion percentage while you are in the lead to score points?  Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I believe that the tournament has to be 100% complete before the points are officially awarded. I am currently playing in several tournaments and have points in each but I still don't show up in the Leaderboard yet because the tournaments are still going. Hope this answers your question.

It seems you are right, but I thought a "leaderboard" was only valid during a tournament.  After the tournament, the leader is not just the leader, but the winner.  I mean, using the term "leaderboard" implies things are not certain and that someone is just "in the lead."  I don't get it.

Leaderboard points are points that you get at the end of a tournament, depending on how well you did in the tournament.

This is different from your score in the tournament, which is your wins plus half your draws. Also, there are tiebreaks, which are altogether different. Confused yet? Here's an example:

Tournament link:
http://www.chess.com/tournament/deep-fried-tournament-southern-style

It is a twelve person tournament with 254 leaderboard points available. You can see this, on that link, just below the tournament crosstable. If you click on the "254", it will take you to a calculator with pre-filled in data. Click on the button "calculate points" and it tells you that first place will get 127 points. Go change the 1 to 2 in the "place finish", recalculate, and see that second place will get 64 points. The formulas are explained more on that page.

In terms of "score" and "tie breaks", right now you have a score of 5 and a tiebreak of 9. This will be used to determine the final placing in the tournament (and will be the input to the leaderboard points calculator I mentioned above).

Hope this helps

I think I understand now.  The "leaderboard" for which you can score points is the overall Leaderboard for ALL tournaments on chess.com...I think I've got it!
