Hi all,  I am looking for some advice from anyone who has been part of a ‘Turn based chess’ ladder tournament. Our team has come up with a set of rules that we think will work and we would like to know if anyone has tried a ladder on chess.com If you have any ideas that you think might help us, or you would like to try it with us, we are ‘The friendly Knights’.

Cheers

Hi,

In a chess club the players are put on a ladder in reverse rating order. The players then challange a player above them usually limited to a set number of places, if the challenger wins they swap places with the challanged player if they lose or draw they stay put. This continues for a time and you can move up the ladder or stay top by winning games. Easy and fun to play.

Sounds like a great idea! I have no knowledge of how to do it though. So as I understand it you could have this:

Player A (1200)

Player B (1300)

Player C (1400)

Player D (1500)

Player E (1600)

Player F (2000)

If player A plays player E and wins, neither of them changes position in the ladder. However if player E wins then he/she will swap with player A. However if player F was at the top of the ladder and player A was at the bottom when their match began and player A were to beat player F then what would happen? Seeing as there are 6 players in this example and a player can only move up 5 places at a time?

William,

The ladder now has 46 members so it has grown and developed a bit since I first posted :-)

If you go to: http://www.chess.com/news/tfk-ladder-rules-turn-based-amended-16072012-7918 you will see the rules and if you go to : http://www.chess.com/news/tfk-turn-based-ladder-2013-8436 you will see the ladder. If you want to join just post a note.
