Players League v.s. Ratings

I would like to share my thoughts and experience with the tournaments that I have played here in Chess.com. I have been mostly playing the 1199 and below Swiss Quad tournament. This is my favorite because, it is 30 mins
yes
and scheduled every 4hrs on average.
obviously the average of 4 hours 4 hours 4hours and 4 hours is 4 hours
its always 4 hours
I realize that the parring's are random
nope they are based on swiss system
and is a rated tournament. I have recently posted a topic " Playing Out of My League" and gave a discussion on my experience and ENJOMENT.
... this is the main issue
there is no such thing as "playing out of league" as a 1100 with silver league is no different from a 1100 in legend league except the second plays much more
That being said, I have found that the ratings and Players League Levels are not always as they seem.
THEY ARE NOT RELATED
stop trying to compare them
just stop
At face value, ratings 1200 and up and Leagues levels such as Elite, Champion and Legion have at times been beat.
idk what this means
if it means you defeated them, good job (only because of rating)
beating someone 200 points below you but higher in league... is not impressive
I would see the leagues like Legions and Champion and think, " I am playing out of my league"?
same point lol, that is not a point which makes any sort of sense
And that is true if I am a lower league, but I have tied and won a few games at these levels.
but
nope, it should be and
these two things arent paradoxical, so it should be and
Ratings also, I have won a few games at high levels 1100 ratings as well.
THIS is important, and also impressive
stop thinking leagues have anything to do with strength
There are good days and there are bad days and not everyone plays consistently all the time. I have also learned that sooner or later someone is going to make a mistake.
correct philosophy
this is true
I do not want to get into the cheating that I have read here in Chess.com.
obviously, if you cheat youre just a bad person
if you mean "i wont talk about it" thats also fair
But I would like to add that it catches up with them that cheat. And I believe that I have beat some cheaters when they cannot cheat.
huh!?
cheaters who cant cheat
why cant they cheat lol its 30 min
I believe that there are a lot of players that want to advance in Players League and in the process of trying to win to the next level lose their ratings by the game lost in the process.
so people will lose rating because they play too much coz of league, and thus lose games
There are great players in Chess.com and advance holding their ratings all the way through.
they just dont tilt i guess? idk how this has anything to do with strength, as you claim:
And there are beginners like me that will play a lot of games and lose a lot of games and the ratings go down.
pretty sure this is abt mental strength and not tilting rather than strength but ok
It has been said if you play enough games you will advance to the next level and that is true.
it is
I had been doing that when I was in wood and stone and my ratings went down from the losses I had in the process, I made the next levels, but my ratings were low.
not but
and
When I reached silver, I realized I need to try to keep my ratings from going down as I was trying to advance in the leagues.
this makes no sense
you want to keep your rating, yet want to advance the leagues
imo its better to be underrated and play for leagues coz then you have more wins via the matchmaking system
but you play in tournaments...
why do you have a problem with being low rated if trying to advance in leagues; when being low rated doesnt prevent one from advancing in leagues? the logic here is unsound
I have been reviewing my games and studying the lessons here as well. I found myself cramming on Sundays to play a lot of games before time ran out.
cram earlier lol
theres also a good method- look at how everyone did last week (using their profile) then estimate how many you need; once you get above that, stop (unless you slip down)
Time management was the key and rest. Chess has thought me about me and how I play. I need a balance of rest so my mind can be fresh, I need to study chess from my review of games.
good thoughts
these also make you a bit worse at leagues but give you... a decent life so thats good
The ratings to me are an indicator of how well I am playing, and the Leagues motivate me.
you care about both ratings and leagues? ok but realise they arent related
But I have learned this, I should play better when going to the next level in Players League
why
because I can advance to the next level without losing my ratings from a bunch of lost games.
lower rating = doesnt matter for leagues
why do you think it matters
I believe I was in silver six weeks because I was not playing at that level, and it took me six weeks to advance.
no you were in silver coz you didnt play enough
there is no "silver level"
Am I a better player now than when I was in the beginning of the year? Yes, my insight shows me this. You can advance in Players League if you want to rush and play a lot of games, but as you get higher in the levels it catches up to you.
what catches up? do people actually start playing recklessly because they have a higher league!?
You can grow by maintaining your ratings as a primary goal as you advance to the next level.
next level.. at what
at strength
ie at rating
higher league can never mean better player
Chess.com is a great place to start and stay motivated as well learn. And have a lot of fun.
ig yeah
leagues are not rating, nor are they similar
