Throwing games

A player in a tournament I'm playing in is clearly throwing games to weak, low rated players. He'll win enough games to remain high in the standings and qualify for the next round, but his rating is now much lower than when the tournament started. This is legal I'm sure but am just wondering why someone would play this way and how common the practice is.

If you are serious, you should make these allegations to chess.com and to the tournament director. (Using the contact form and private messaging.)

The reason that people play like this is to enter a tournament they are more likely to win as there will be weaker opponents.  I have come across others who have played like this before.

I did not know that chess.com would be interested in this.  What will they do to such a player?

I guess they will lose trophies or get banned if they do it too much Right???

The tournament happened 10 years ago.

There was absolutely no need to reopen this.
