Tie Break Question

Greetings,

I am a little embarrassed to ask this question; however, how does the "Tie Break" work in Tournaments?  I am currently in a Tournament and uncertain how this benefits the player.  Thank you.

Tournament help link.  http://www.chess.com/tournaments/help.html#tiebreak

Take your individual score against each opponent and multiply it by the total score of that opponent. Add these up. The tie break updates until all games are done.

You have to do well against opponents who have a high score to get a high tie break.

If two players win all games vs another players and draw their two games???

In that case both players advance to the next round, I believe.

Then it's all up to who has more tie break points , but only 1 player will advance even if they have the same win-loss record in the end.Doesn't seem right ,but shows just how important  "Tie break points" are... I just found out too ! So , do you get tie break points for games you lose ? ? ?

Read the link TadDude provided :  http://www.chess.com/tournaments/help.html#tiebreak

Quote : "If two players have the same score and the same Tie Break score, both will advance."

The example given below the above quote (see link) clearly explains the methodology used in calculating Tie Break points. Read through it, and all will become clear.

What about a tournament currently in Round 2? Is the tiebreaker strictly based on Round 2 results? I heard someone say it was based on combined results, but that doesn't sound right to me.

I think the best solution is put in the next round, in case of equal tie-break, the worst rating between players in question. There is a logical in that. In tourneys like Fast tournament II (http://www.chess.com/tournament/fast-tournament-ii) two players in a match advance if their result is a 1:1. It's sounds easy to anybody who wants to advance without fight. Just draw both games and advance! I would not do that but anybody can, or not? Sorry by my poor english...
