Untitled Tuesday

Ever wanted to join a Titled Tuesday tournament but didn't have a title? Untitled Tuesday is the next best thing! We run a live blitz tournament following the same format, scheduled to start shortly after the official Titled Tuesday event finishes.

To join, you must have three months membership on the site. Titled players will not be admitted!

Rules:

  1. We will run a blitz tournament in the live chess server, scheduled for 3:30 PM Pacific Time, on Tuesdays when there is a Titled Tuesday event (usually the first Tuesday of the month).  This time should give plenty of time for the official Titled Tuesday event to finish, so that you can watch the final rounds before joining the Untitled Tuesday event.  Time zone converter: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Untitled+Tuesday&iso=20170606T1530&p1=137
  2. Additionally, since the Tuesday time is inconvenient for many people, we will run an event on the following Saturday.  The time of the Saturday event will vary since there is no time that works for everyone; if the time chosen one month doesn't work for you, maybe the next month will.  The time of the Saturday event will be announced early in the week.
  3. The time control will be three minutes with two seconds of increment.
  4. Currently we are running an 8-round event.  If we get enough people, we will increase the number of rounds, and may eventually add rating-restricted events.
  5. We may infrequently hold other special live tournaments, but Untitled Tuesday is our main event.
  6. The use of computer assistance is not permitted.  Games will be monitored for fair play violations.  Anyone caught cheating will be banned from the group and reported to the cheater-detection team.  Note: we cannot reverse the results of games retroactively, even if your opponent cheated, but we can exclude them from future events.
  7. If you earn an official title recognised by chess.com in OTB play, you are eligible for the official Titled Tuesday tournament.  You will therefore be removed from this group and no longer be permitted to play in Untitled Tuesday events.  Sorry, but you're now too good for us. happy.png
  8. We reserve the right to ban anyone from the group for any reason, such as abuse towards other members.

To join, you must be a member of the Untitled Tuesday group: https://www.chess.com/club/untitled-tuesday (v3 link) or https://www.chess.com/groups/view/untitled-tuesday (v2 link).  Go into the live chess server and select the Tournaments tab.  The Untitled Tuesday event will appear in the list an hour before it is due to start.

If we have sufficient demand, we will add a second event, perhaps on a Saturday, so that people who can't play in the Tuesday event can play too.

Bump.

FM_Checkmate

What's with the bumping? I already had a bump there. And mods don't appreciate bumping.

smurf, you may add yourself.

I might not be at the tournaments, either of them (if there will be a Saturday one), but I'll see if I could attend them during the summer break.

But, it depends if I'll be on chess.com. So I'm not 100% sure if I will be able to make it.

I hate blitz

MGleason

I don't think so, but I want to test before we start.

We are planning our first event for this Saturday, the 20th of May.

We will plan for 3:00 PM Pacific time.  That is 10:00 UTC.  Time zone converter: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Untitled+Tuesday+Test-run&iso=20170520T22&p1=%3A

This tournament will be available in the live chess server's list of tournaments up to an hour beforehand.  Note that you have to be in the new version of the site; you can switch back after the event if you prefer the old version.

We will follow the same format as we will follow for our future events: the time control is three minutes plus two seconds of increment, and it will be a seven-round event (we will increase the number of rounds for future events if we get enough people playing).

Note: games will be monitored for fair play violations.

Please tell your friends!  It would be great if we could have 30-40 or more people playing!

Note: you must be a member of this group: https://www.chess.com/club/untitled-tuesday

Also, the tournament will only show up in the live chess server if you are using the new version of the site.  If you are still in v2, you will need to temporarily switch to v3.

"Untitled Saturday" ?

MGleason

Something like that. grin.png

Former_mod_david

Hmm - that's 8 am Sunday for me, which is actually doable... how long will it run for? I'd probably have to leave after 60 minutes - 90 minutes max if I'm going to get to church...

MGleason

Planning seven rounds of 3|2.  If the longest game in each round is 60 moves, that's up to 9:20 per round.  my guess is an hour to an hour and a half.

FM_Checkmate

I'm sorry MGleason, but tomorrow I can't attend.

Will there be another time? Any day other than Saturday?

MGleason

We'll still have the main event on Tuesday, June 6th, as that's right after Titled Tuesday.

MGleason
